I'm so glad that someone else has realized this phenomenon occurs, and I completely agree. However, the velocidensity isn't as much a problem as the data viscosity, or the size of each kernel where the song is stored on your hard drive. In terms of physics, sound files are sloshed around the device they're stored on, kept in reach of the DVD laser to be viewed by centrifugal force. However, as your disc flings these packets to the edge of the CD or HDD's proxy, some MP3 data packets, due to their low data viscosity, are torn from their original file by dragging on the edges of kernels as they pass through. However, windows as an operating system has a service known as "Deep Freeze", where windows will freeze the file's main body's viscosity and allow loose packets to reattach. Unfortunately, the process is not perfect, and it reattaches in a way that slows down Windows' reading process so you end up losing the smooth bitrate you had before, if just by a little every second.

I recommend keeping your vintage MP3's on an SSD, or solid state drive, to preserve thier freshness. SSD's don't have to rotate, so their velocidensity is near 0, making them perfect as a drive to store music, because they don't need to push files through the kernels of its drive to be read by a laser. I use one of those grocery store crisp bags around my SSD to keep the files inside nice and crisp. Be warned, though, as SSD's are an experimental technology and are extremely volatile. If you expose this drive to heat above 112° Fahrenheit (or 6,290 Kelvin, if you were curious) it's liable to explode violently, due to its sheer power.

I understand and completely agree with you, when it comes to my mp3 recordings I certainly hear the difference. You see I have been listening to them for a long time, but only now have come to understand exactly how "lossy" they really have become.

You see when going through my recordings of my Space Jam (1996) Soundtrack I could hear the substantial loss of perfect music balance. The mighty roar of pitch and bend was nothing more than a measly meow of a precious, starving, disease ridden kitten awaiting euthanasia. Also, when looking through my always open folder of my Cat in the Hat(2003) MP3 files what I heard was nothing less of disturbing.

When the realization hit me that my life, along with these hit songs and pristine musical precedence was fading away I only had one thought. I need to- No, no that isn't just a need. The WORLD needs to understand, and switch to the mighty and overpowering perfection of FLAC.
