My favourite multiplayer game I've gotten into this year.

Some context: Battlefield 2 was one of my favourite games of all time, but most modern blockbuster multiplayer FPS have drifted away from what I like these days. HLL fixes that.

For me it's the perfect blend of realism and arcadey. It's still very much a game, but with enough hardcore traits to make it a deeper experience than modern Battlefield games. The graphics, sound and atmosphere are very immersive and make it feel like you're in band of brothers. The gunplay is fantastic and satisfying, especially the semi-autos.

Definitely need a mic and team work to play properly though.

Another thing is that mostly the community is really great. Old school community servers, regular players, teamwork from randoms even (at least here in Australia).

Highly recommended if you loved early Battlefields, and are searching for something more, but something like Squad or ARMA is bit too hardcore for you. Oh and definitely if you just like WW2 games.

One of the best games I've played this year, and ever. I never played HL1 originally, but did play through HL2 and the Orange Box etc. back in the day. I was a fan of HL2 but not obsessed with it. This game is amazing though and far outshines HL2 for me. The Black Mesa version is a great modern way to experience the HL1 game and story for the first time like I did. Slowly climbing up through the Black Mesa compound as the story reveals itself is an incredible and immersive experience, and probably the best version of that style of gameplay loop. While it's a linear game, it doesn't feel linear with the way the amazing level design moves you through the game. I found it very engaging, and will be returning to play this one often.

Amazing immersive sim game with lots of options to explore and take out enemies. You're free to dive into as much or little detail as you like. My only gripe is that I didn't pick up this game and support the genre sooner!
