An accessible but deep under the hood, super fast-paced and gorgeous looking fighting game.

Gameplay is great and backed up by beautiful visuals and sounds which helps make every successful hit feel satisfying.
Mechanics such as Guard Impacts and Critical Edges are back and feel better than ever, but unfortunately there is also a new controversial mechanic called Reversal Edge which doesn't feel like it has a place in a fighting game with it's true rock, paper and scissors mechanic. This is however something that does become less of an issue after you've learned how to deal with it properly.
However, it's not all doom and gloom with the new gameplay mechanics as the other big new addition comes in the form of Soul Charge, which is essentially a powered-up mode for your character, giving you access to special cool new moves which are often extremely hard-hitting or include additional traits such as armor breaking. Soul Charge feels like a balanced and fun addition to the game and it also makes each character feel even more unique.

The roster is not the biggest one, but it does include all of the fan favorites, and every character feels unique - there are no clones here. Add a few awesome guest characters such as Geralt from the Witcher series and the upcoming 2B from NieR and you have a wide selection of great characters to choose from.

Some of the downsides include having to fight against custom characters in ranked play, lack of a decent causual mode and day 1 DLC. Single player modes are a hit or miss, but we're talking about fighting games here so no surprises there. Some of the maps are a bit bland and there could be more of them, but this is something that can easily be patched in later. Looking forward to see how Namco deals with these issues.

All in all a great game, whether you are a proud fighting game scrub or somebody with more experience who is looking for something fresh and exciting.
