Between this and bitburner, I can get behind idlers/clickers with good story.

This is everything the X universe should not be. At least it's a DLC that you can completely ignore.

Save your money. Pass on this.

Scripted single-player campaign missions without the ability to save is very 1990s.

It's a neat take on the Settlers mechanic. The hex-based grid works well as does the brood/squad mechanic. But it's not well balanced, and needs a ton of tuning on the pacing. Some missions have long periods of inactivity (seriously, several minutes pass without me having to do anything), and other missions require many restarts to memorize the timing and placement of scripted events to pass.

Inability to save during missions, and the aforementioned issues with missions make this game a non-recommend. If you're willing to put up with amateur balance and replaying the same levels, listening to the same dialogue and getting the same tool-tips over and over again, then maybe you'll dig this.

To add some clarity: Sometimes you'll have lost a mission because you don't have enough food remaining for the final scripted sequences, but won't know it for 10-20 minutes. So you'll have to sit through many minutes of waiting until your colony inevitably fails. Then you play the whole mission from the beginning to try again. And again. And again.

Uhh... I have to burn down someone's tent instead of just talking to them. WTF? And that ending sequence.. it's terrible. The narratives here make no sense. I couldn't even finish it. The options I was presented with were so bizarre. The english translation must be missing some nuance.

Is there a game here or just a randomness simulator? I feel like I need to grok several hundred pages of obtuse lore about a make-believe world before I can do basic things like succeed at rituals (which are required to advance in the game). I mean, if you're a historian who enjoys reading fake history about a bronze-age fantasy world, this game might be appealing.

Not great. It's pretty repetitive rather quickly. Needs some more time in the oven to reach a good polished state. There are a lot of QoL features that could amplify the basic premise, which are painfully absent.

Tim Cain should be ashamed for this travesty. Obsidian can do better than this milquetoast offering.

Early Access Review
The UI for this is confusing. Pawns often corner themselves and starve or die of thirst because they can't get out. There are much better city builders. I don't know why you'd bother with this one.
Edit: I put another few hours into the game to try some different techniques. But my pawns still consistently find themselves stuck, unable to path to food or water. It isn't at all clear what I need to do to reach them (build ladders? stairs? floors? I try all of that but they refuse to climb down off of their death-perch).
I get that this is some guy's pet project, and the terrible interface shows it.

I tried to like this game. I put ~25 hours into it. I just keep getting frustrated after a few hours into a run when my guys mysteriously refuse to move anywhere.
