I've been deep into Civ games for about 20 years now, long enough to know that every new entry throws people for a loop at first. It’s just how this series works—big changes drop, the community panics, and then after a while, people settle in. Personally, I trust these devs. They’ve built a strong track record in this genre, and while I can see why some players have gripes, I’ve been able to push past the rough edges and just enjoy the game for what it is. 118 hours in, and I’m still having a blast. Whether you’ll feel the same? That really depends on what you’re looking for and how much you're willing to roll with some fresh mechanics.

If you’re on the fence, I’d say try it. If something feels off to you, no harm in waiting—let it breathe, maybe check back in after the first DLC. The devs have been listening, and updates have been steady so far.

What’s different in Civ 7?
1. Visuals are a major step up. The game looks sharper, smoother, and just all-around better art-style compared to its predecessors. Very well optimized too.

2. The new Age system changes everything. Instead of locking into one Civ for the whole game, you shift as you progress. Your leader stays the same, your cities remain yours, but you get to pick a new Civ each Age. So, you could start as Rome, then pivot to Normandy, then wrap things up as America. Adds a ton of variety and keeps things fresh.

3. The UI is a mess right now. Some of the most important info is buried, making it harder than it should be to manage your empire efficiently. If you like optimizing every little thing, be ready for some frustration.

4. Some mechanics feel unfinished or just unexplained. The game doesn’t do a great job of explaining certain systems. The tutorials cover the basics, but beyond that, you’re kind of left to figure things out yourself. The Civlopedia is there, but it’s missing key details—stuff like specialists and town specializations took me way too long to piece together. (If you need help, the Civ 7 Discord has been a lifesaver.)

5. Leaders now have progression. Play a leader enough, and they gain XP, unlocking perks (called Momentos) that you can equip before starting a new game. This actually gives a reason to stick with a leader across multiple runs, which I think is a great addition.

At the end of the day, Civ 7 is different—but different doesn’t mean bad. It’s got some rough patches, sure, but it also introduces fresh ideas that shake up the formula in a meaningful way. If you’re open to that, there’s a good chance you’ll enjoy it.

Great game! Very re-playable and can go at your own pace. I like the balance in this game. Devs thought through progression very well in this.

I enjoy the content of the game... Feels like a classic mmorpg we all know and love. I also enjoy the progression system of skills and upgrading gear, etc. All the content is GREAT..... but the targeting and camera angle ruins the entire game for me.

Even after watching several videos that claim to help with fixing targeting and camera - all it helped was turn something horrible into something bad instead. Like, I understand that devs are trying to be different with their games by going against norms, but this is just terrible.

Only melee players could probably relate to what I'm saying here... If you're ranged dps or a healer. This game is probably 10/10 for you.

There's only two types of survival games... and this ain't one of them! Soulmask stands out on its own as a recreation of the Survival genre. The learning curve is intense and overwhelming at first - but when it finally clicks and you realize what the concept of the game is - you see the genius behind it.

Don't expect a casual & relaxing house building game here.. This is for true survival lovers.

I may not have given this game much of a chance, but it left me very unmotivated from the start. I did the first couple of missions and found myself asking.. So, what exactly am I doing?? Am I getting exp? Am I leveling up skills? Is there any good loot out there I should be trying to get? Because every building I went into - all I could find is a soda. All the easy AI bots, all they had were standard guns and a bandana.. There's just no enjoyment. I can't even enjoy the graphics unless I want to experience constant rubber-banding.

There's just something lacking here and it's hard to put a finger on what exactly... A lack of guidance and closure of achievements I guess?

After playing for 30mins, I was already annoyed. You receive constant transmissions which pause the game and make it unplayable. "Hey go scavenge supplies" ... okay ... and before you even get a chance to start that objective the game pauses again - "Hey.. this building is on fire let's go check it out" .. uh okay .. 2 seconds later the game pauses yet again.. "Hey, actually don't go to that building.. create another squad first!" ... barely a minute after your first 5 back-to-back transmissions "You need to get your squad back it's getting dark" like wtf? Can I play the game please???

In March, I said this is 'one of the best games of 2024 so far'. Easy winner GOTY 2024... Such a sad, underwhelming year for Gamers.
