Objects in Space is a game about loneliness. there's tons of characters, and you'll spend a lot of time talking to them, or fighting them — but the game isn't about them. it's about the moments between, the voyages to see them, and the depths you'll go to avoid them. it's about wishing they were around when they aren't, and wishing they weren't when they are.

Objects in Space is a game about waiting. waiting for your computers to boot up. waiting for your jump drive to spin up. waiting for your firing solutions to calculate. waiting for your sensors to determine if that unknown contact off your port quarter is something you should be afraid of.

Objects in Space is a game about noise. controlling the emissions of your boat's various modules, determining whether or not you can afford the noise required to jump to another sector — or the noise required to run your RCS enough to get that unidentified ship out of your blind spot. your boat is loud — the whirring of computer fans, the humming of monitors, the loud rattling from your engine room — but rarely ever loud enough to drown out that worried little voice in the back of your head.

you while away the hours leafing through news headlines on your comms terminal. fickle border disputes. housing shortages. corporate propaganda. notices of death — politicians, scientists, anarchists. you recognize some of them. you've talked to some of them. you wonder if maybe you're the reason they're dead now.

you fiddle with the innards of your boat's modules, trying to restore what remains of your boat's primary battery to some semblance of efficiency after that latest pirate attack near the Leo/Maru jumpgate. the ro/aut's shot, and you've already cannibalized everything else you can afford to this far out, so you give up. maybe the next station you hit will have some for sale. maybe you'll be able to fix the static on your nav screen, too. hell, maybe the cargo you're hauling will be enough to afford a new one entirely. after you pay off that loan, of course.

you flip the switch on the blast shield that covers your boat's one little porthole, and you sip your tea, gazing out into the stars. a couple inches of metal are all that sit between you and the endless, crushing weight of nothing. there's nobody else out there for miles, maybe days.

you're just another object in space, floating alone in an empty sea of black, wondering if you'll make it home in at least one piece.

i ate an eyeball and went down into the sewers and now i'm being followed around by a skull that periodically goes BWAH and between having to buy food and having to buy a new gender every few hours i don't really think being a spaceport janitor is an ideal career choice

but you get to meet people

i fished for an hour and a half and caught a bunch of crabs and broke the crabs open to pull weapon crates out of them and then sold all the weapons from those weapon crates and got 2 gold and spent it on a cute hat

THIS GAME IS PRETTY MUCH JUST THE BEST GAME. DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT PLAYING IT BECAUSE IT WILL JUST RUIN EVERY OTHER GAME YOU'VE EVER PLAYED FOR YOU BECAUSE NONE OF THEM WILL BE EVEN HALF AS GOOD.
