This game has been out for about 12 years now, 10 of which I have played pretty consistently. There is a lot of money spending involved in this game if you care about cosmetics. P2W is big for pvp and thats about it. The gameplay is fun but I believe the hype for this game comes from the items/cosmetics/pets, which you guessed is 98% paid content. The gameplay ASIDE from all of that I believe is unique and fun on it's own.
This game would be so much more fun and I believe have a bigger community if a lot of the items weren't store based. Drops are what make games fun, grinding and earning things is what is satisfying. I don't think anyone is trying to gloat about items that they just opened their wallet for but I guess that's just me. Try it out if you haven't.
