Okay, this is a Unity game so just know what you're getting into. There's some generic UI templates here and there, the performance is *not* buttery smooth at times (even on a demon rig), and the FMOD audio is way too swingy. Also there's some UI jank. All of these things are typical of most small-studio Unity developers.

With that out of the way, let me scream accolades to the heavens on how much I appreciate that this game exists. If you have a soft-spot for subsims, it's been almost 20 years since we got the last good one (SH3) and you're going to LOVE this one. The gameplay is superb, the world is completely alive... it's not all instanced spawns or 100% scripted encounters. Things react. Other U-boats will call for help -- ones you didn't even know existed on the map. Even you can call for help and form your own wolfpack.

The damage model is insanely detailed. It also has a huge team-management aspect that SH3 did not have. While the officer and crew development isn't very deep, at least it's there. You will grow attached to some of your crew members. Others you'll leave on the shore to solicit research projects at HQ. The tech-tree side of things is pretty shallow, but it's enough to vary multiple playthroughs.

The graphics are superb for a Unity game. It's no Battlefield, but it's also not cartoony like Sea of Thieves.

Probably #1 best thing about UBOAT is the mission variety. There's a lot of mission types. It's not all just "go here, sink X tons", etc. There's minelaying, there's infiltration, recon, extraction, all sorts of stuff. And HQ can change your mission on you mid-way. It really feels like a grand war game, with you at the helm of a lowly Unterseeboot.

Again, if you ever were curious about subsims (or naval warfare in general), this is the game to get in 2024.

Garbage game, recent patch ruined it completely.
13 years down the drain overnight.

Strongly suggest putting this whole developer on your Steam blocklist.

This DLC would be fine except for one thing:
It's not OPTIONAL.

Even if you disable (or don't even install) it the massive freaking icon will be in your way and the town events will still fire. The game will nag you to install the DLC. In a single-player roguelike, this is unacceptable. Huge misstep by the developers that ruins an otherwise amazing game.

Woke garbage. Literally every third NPC you meet is gay.

Sorry, but when I'm talking to some shopkeeper and he casually mentions "his husband" or a female Orlan talks about "how she wished she was surrounded by handsome women" it really sucks you right out of the story. It's so overt it's distracting.

5% my arse. More like 45%.
Avoid this junk.

"The right to discuss is a privilege—it is not an entitlement you earn by playing the game"

Oh really? If I ordered a medium steak and your waiter sent me one rare, I can't ask for the manager? Suffice to say I can surely tell all my friends about what a sharty steakhouse this place has become.

Never buying a CA product again.

Early Access Review
I bought this game at midnight and by 2AM the missus came downstairs and told me to STFU screaming.

One of the most polished games to be released this year. I've laughed until I cried in co-op with my kids. I had about 30 hours in the Playtest before release.

Ignore the review bombers, they're just salty because to them the game's FOV looks too narrow.

DLC new mechanics and content is okay, but it's like trying to polish a turd.
Wrath is a horrible cRPG and this DLC can't fix that.

Everything is woke. Overtly so.
Even the burly, bearded main character from this DLC will make a pass at you.

I bought this thinking it would inject some classic Sword & Sorcery machismo into the game, but nope.
Game has more faeries than the First World.

Game is full of woke garbage.
It's even worse than Kingmaker.

I absolutely adored Kingmaker (~1200 hours), but this game just feels shallower in every respect. The prose style of the writing is not of the same caliber, the voice acting is somehow worse, and the over-the-top fantasy style is just way too much. Many of the NPC companions will straight up aggravate you. The only real shining light of this game is the improved the mechanics. They are solid, there's practically infinite possibilities/builds, and their implementation is a big upgrade from Kingmaker.

Eh... and the tutorial is much better.

I had already considered Wrath a mediocre cRPG at best, but this social/political tripe shoved between the lines that manifests itself insidiously has pushed me over the edge. Don't let your kids play this or it will try and normalize woke debauchery.
