Early Access Review
One thousand hours later (on the Steam version), I’m finally giving my thoughts on this game.

So, to start off strong, this is a social interaction game, and what it is is that it allows you to interact with other people around the internet. This is helpful for people who are too shy to go outside. However, there are (with all online games) people who are going to do bad things like Manipulation, Emotional Abuse, Toxicity, Hacking, and Crashing. It’s also worth pointing out that there are kids here. So, I wouldn’t try to be in Public Instances unless you know what you’re doing.

Now for the game itself. I will start by saying that there are two versions of the game. PC is for users who use a desktop/laptop to play this game and don’t own a VR Headset. But if you want to experience Virtual Reality, you’ll likely need to use SteamVR or Android VR headsets. Android is more of an optimized version (the best it can) of VRChat, mainly to make the connection stable and smooth the best it can be. If I had to decide between them, I would say PC is the best option. I’ll add that Unity isn’t a great engine, in my opinion, but that’s for another time.

I’m not a content creator for this game, but I can say that learning from others makes it challenging to put things into this game (especially on Android). And unfortunately, there will be times when people create ways to crash your game. That’s just how it goes. But I’m amazed at how much work Users put into this, even ones that never had models/assets. And they’d recently added a way to support them in this, which I have mixed feelings for, but I digress. Therefore, I won’t be talking about Graphics or Sounds, as that will differ for each World and Avatar.

Easy Anti-cheat… I was a bit upset about that being added in. But because of that, not only did the developers start updating VRChat often around that time, but they also added features that I wanted built-in, like FOV changer, Chatting via text, and Custom UI designs. I still think it’s a terrible choice, as Android can do tricks to hack their game since they don’t have EAC (and I’ve seen a few before). However, maybe it’ll improve over time.

Lastly, playing in VR. When I got into using VR for the first time in this game, it felt like you were the character you wanted to be. VRChat supports all SteamVR add-ons. Controls will take a while to master, but you’ll be smooth sailing once you do. I also admire the fact you can take fantastic pictures/videos in VR (it is possible to do so outside of it, too). And I’ve seen players do some amazing Roleplaying/Fighting scenes in it before, so that’s a huge plus.

In short, the game isn’t perfect, but it’s not as bad as others say. You just have to know what to do on VRChat for it to be good, and in my case, it’s hanging out with friends. And for the last two years, and 1k hours I’ve put into it, I’m still happy I got into this game. I’ll also add that there’s a Meta Quest Link version, which I recommend more than this if you use an Oculus headset.

To start, the collection does have some minor changes (due to copyright reasons), but it is still faithful to the previous episodes. And I love the new chapter it haves in here. One downside is that the game will crash once in a while. That aside, I do recommend this if you have played the Originals before or are new to this series.

It really depends on what you’re going to be using it for, what type of system you have, and how much knowledge you have of emulators. However, while I do recommend this, I would advise using others like BizHawk or others out there (like Project64 for Nintendo 64 ROMs), as OBS Studio has a thing where it does not like capturing it for some weird reason.
