This game is some of the most fun I've had in VR. The accuracy of the physics is what really sells it for me, but also it's incredibly easy to set up a private room, get some friends in it, and all play together. The courses are designed well, and I love hunting for the lost balls on each of the normal courses. The inclusion of hard modes for every course was a great idea, and each has a unique puzzle to solve to unlock a special putter that makes it worth checking them out at least once. The dev is continuing to add new courses, so this is going to be a go-to VR game for me for a while to come.

I disagree with the developer's recent decision to remove content that had already been made optional.

I'd read other reviews that talked about how bad this port was, but I had to see it for myself. Every negative thing you have read elsewhere is 100% true. This is a very poor port of the mobile version of Chrono Trigger, which was already bad to begin with.

The graphics are an absolute mess. There's some smoothing/filtering on the sprites that make them look blurry, and just plain bad. The tiling of backgrounds is straight up jumbled all over the place; repeating patterns fail to line up, producing horrible seams and disjointed visuals. Even on the title screen, you will see seams in the word 'Trigger' during its flowing animation. I don't know how anyone thought this was presentable.

In the original description of the game's key features, it says, "As for the sound and music, under the supervision of composer Yasunori Mitsuda, all songs have been updated for an even more immersive gameplay experience." During my short play time, I couldn't personally tell any difference in the music of this version of the game from any other version, so I have no idea what this claim is about.

For anyone eying up the Limited Edition, it's not worth it. The liner notes are a single JPEG of four very short paragraphs written by Mitsuda, and don't reveal any special information or really say much at all. That 'special medley' MP3 is a seven and a half minute mix of tracks straight from the game, and not even any kind of special orchestration of them. They're just the original sound version of the songs, and ones with no ending simply fade out before the next one starts. In order, they are Chrono & Marle - A Distant Promise, Yearnings of the Wind, Magus Confronted, Corridor of Time, and Chrono Trigger. If you just listen to those songs in that order through any other means, then you'll have heard this 'special medley'.

Someone else complained that the game's framerate suffered when they had an Xbox controller plugged in, and I actually experienced the same thing. With an Xbox One controller connected via USB, the game ran at a noticably lower framerate. Unplugging it instantly returned performance to normal. Also, when I first started the game, I was using my mouse on the menus, which somehow locked the game into keyboard/mouse mode and it wouldn't take any input from my Xbox controller. I had to restart the game *and* move the controller to a different USB port, then make sure to only use it on all menus in order to get it to work.

The touchscreen UI from this game's mobile incarnation is indeed intact, and pretty clunky. In certain situations, like going to the prehistoric dance stage at the millennial fair, differently-colored hotspots will just appear over the graphics. These were an indication of where you could tap on a touchscreen device, and it's ridiculous to have them appear when other control methods are being used.

This was an incredibly disappointing and unbelievably poorly executed port of a great game.

Addictive gameplay, and a ton of fun for local multiplayer. I played through the game with my wife; while some of the kitchens were pretty challenging for only two players, we did manage to earn three stars on every level, so it's still playable even if you don't have a full couch. I just wish there were more kitchens, or even a level editor to let players design their own kitchens and choose what recipes are on the menu.
