Probably my favorite game of the year. An epic sci-fi story that is at its core an incredibly human and personal story that also comments on some very real questions. What needs to be remembered and what only causes harm? What can be justified for a better future? Can you ever do enough good to make up for the bad you've done? Is there a point in fighting even when you know you won't win?

I can't recommend it enough.

While the art style was admittedly a bit off-putting at first, the gameplay looked decent enough that I decided to give it a try. I was pleasantly surprised. It's a fun 2D beat 'em up in the vein of the Vanillaware games (Odin Sphere, Muramasa: The Demon Blade, Dragon's Crown) with smooth, crisp animation and surprisingly decent humor. So even if you aren't normally into the cartoon animals that edge on the side of too cutesy, I'd still recommend giving it a shot. Fighting enemies and racking up giant combos is fun, there's exploring and backtracking for those who enjoy those sorts of things, challenge rooms to test your skills, and the writing is better than a lot of AAA titles I've played recently.
