First off, I bought and played this game before its Steam release, and it was well worth the purchase for me. It might not be for you, depending. I see this game as being for generally two kinds of people.

1. If you're a transformation/mind control fan who can deal with complex mechanisms, this is definitely a must buy; it's extremely creative with its transformations. You can pull a party member's soul from her body, turning the body into a zombie, then embed the soul in a weapon and then upgrade the zombie with a skeleton mask and give it the weapon with the soul. You can turn a party member into a tree and then come back now and then to harvest fruit from her. A lot of transformations give alternative classes with their own skills, too, like the bimbo, slime, magical girl, and so on transformations, some with their own special equipment. There're a few puzzles that require transforming party members, too. You can even end up fighting your own party member to get them back to their senses. And so on, I'm only touching the surface of the iceberg.

2. Similarly people who're interested in creative game mechanisms and don't mind sexual and kinky content might like this game.

It's definitely a game that doesn't give you any directions other than the initial "hey, check out the Sea Market to the east maybe" but honestly you can do fine just wandering around until you run into an interesting area. Some might be too hard at first but you can go elsewhere until you're ready to handle the area. And there's a wiki for this game that's pretty good which you can easily find with a web search (something like "odyessy of gianna wiki".

This game definitely has a noticeable learning curve, but I've had a fair amount of fun with it.
