I've spent a lot of time now playing MK11 on PC. I've seen the crash fixes, the delays in getting patch content to bring parity to PS4. None of that affects my review, but the thing that affects my review the most is easily the Towers of Time. This is a review from a casual who's played every Mortal Kombat since 1 in the arcades. The tl;dr: The Towers of Time are the most frustrating, depressing experience I've ever had in any Mortal Kombat, let alone a fighting game.

The internet has taken to playing follow the leader making a Noob Saibot AI to do the work for them due to Noob's AI being really good for grinding towers. I, however did not go that route as that's not how I wanted to play the game; I mix between a Kitana AI and manually jumping in to play myself. I have played with and without modifiers to tailor this experience the best that I can to my liking. Suffice to say this experience is not to my liking, and it can be tied to modifiers the AI uses in ToT.

There are modifiers designed to interrupt your combos, slow you down, drain health, literally have epileptic moments with turning the lights on and off. Some of them are flat out unblockable, not even low. This is on top of AI designed around input reading with higher tier AI having more health with all of this going on. You are not fighting just the AI, you are fighting the system modifiers on top of AI difficulty. Coming from someone who flat out says 'I am bad at this game' this experience has been horrible on someone who just wanted to turn the game on, kick ass, sign off and go do work or something. Why am I torturing myself doing this? Because there's literally functionality content (Brutalities) locked behind these towers that you can't get in the Krypt. There are some cool skins and gear you cannot get anywhere else but completing these Towers of Time. ToT has taken away so much of my time trying to beat the system instead of, you know...learning to play the game with my friends because there's gear I want locked behind them.

Please...never again. Never do these Towers of Time ever again, and if you do not in this iteration. NetherRealm tried something new and it was a disaster. It was a disaster at launch, and for people like me after they toned it down it's still a disaster of frustration and depression (disclaimer: the depression comment is not a metaphor for anything, I already suffer from anxiety and depression and this experience was having me spiral downward.)
