The game felt like a cheap plastic copy of the masterpiece that was Doom 2016, and was a chore to play through.

Story felt like a fan fiction, and the somewhat interesting and intriguing feel of the original atmosphere was gone and replaced with tacky schlock. Best example of this is when comparing the UAC holograms in both games to each other. The 2016 version had a mysterious and uncanny feel to them, the holograms in Eternal were just plain stupid and trying forcefully to be funny. And failing at it.

Gameplay was turbocharged with unnecessary bloat. Unnecessary puzzles and puzzle mechanics, million different weapons and grenadetypes in different keyes and million different enemy types were more frustrating than fun. More is not always better. The 2016 did it way better by focusing on the core stuff what makes Doom the Doom.

Graphics and soundtrack were also a downgrade from the 2016 Doom. Eternal has some real bangers, but they aren't utilized as well as in 2016. Being chased by Hell Knights in claustrophobic arenas when BFG Division is blaring in Doom 2016 was AWESOME. That same experience is greatly hampered by the aforementioned disruptive bloat in Eternal.

Changes that would make Doom Eternal a more enjoyable, streamlined and less stupid experience:

- Cut the weird floating space castle from the game completely. Its really stupid concept in every way and breaks the flow of the game
- Remove some enemy types, especially Marauders. Make the remaining ones feel more intimidating. The 2016 versions of Hell Knights, Barons of Hell and Pinkies and the introduction to them were just right.
- Remove flamethrower and freeze-grenades
- Remove the wall climbing and swimming mechanics and all puzzles related to them. Doom should be about shooting and punching demons in the face, not obnoxious parkour and cumbersome puzzles.
- Remove the purple goo from the game, and fire that person who invented it
- Double the amount of ammo you can carry
- The BFG should be the biggest, baddest and most overpowered superweapon there is. There shouldnt be any enemy that survives its blast (excluding special boss fights like in 2016). Of course Eternal nerfed it and made it lame. F**k you Eternal.
- There should be only one epic Crucible, and getting it from evil Samuel Hayden after a huge boss battle would have been the right thing to do. After getting the Crucible back, it should be a big overpowered power-up in arena fights to feel extra manly. In Eternal it was just a similar weapon to the chainsaw. Super lame.
- Add the Gore Nest -arena fights back. They give the levels more structure
- Somehow there is less gore, blood, darkness and grittiness compared to 2016. Bring that atmosphere back.
- Cyberdemon and Spider Mastermind were seriously scary characters in 2016. Not a single scary bossfight in Eternal. Icon of Sin was just boring and janky.
- Make the characters feel less like schlocky cartoon characters
- Do not ever show Doom Slayer's face nor make him speak. Gives better immersion. Doom 2016 build Doom Slayer's character masterfully only through actions, glances and gestures. Of course it had to be ruined too.
- Make a better backstory for Doom Slayer. Being a nobody gladiator in some alien city is pretty lame. Actually the whole concept of the world of Urdak and Maykr-people is lame. Cut those from the game and focus on the completely extinct mysterious Night Sentinels and the dead Argent D'Nur-world that was completely consumed and pulled to hell
- The motivation for Doom Slayer to rip and tear should come from pure hatred against demons, and the games should be just a mad crusade against the hell itself. Also there is saving Earth from hell and avenging the extinction of Night Sentinels, but those arent so important. But in Eternal there is a dead pet rabbit, and that makes Doom Slayer sad. Seriously, a pet rabbit? What the actual hell id Software? Did you think it would be funny or something? It just deflates the whole thing.

So much wasted potential in Doom Eternal.

If you have finished Doom 2016 already, dont play this game. Cherish the awesome memory of the epic experience that you had with it, and do not let this disapointment taint that memory.
