This game rules.

Base game is just as spectacular as it was nearly 30 years ago. Includes the Lost Sanctum and Dimensional Vortex from the DS version. Lost Sanctum in particular is probably one of the worst added content to a SE game I've ever played - insane amount of backtracking. Definitely a lot worse than I remember.

Aside from that, the port is a lot better than it used to be. Had 3 crashes in 31 hours - could be worse. Overworld sprites are different. UI is no longer mobile trash and you can play without that hideous "HD" filter.

Despite the overt weebiness/anime tropes, the main story beats kept me hooked. Beginning is a bit slow, but once it ramps up I found it hard to stop. Truly a great time travel scifi story. I haven't played many VNs (13 Sentinels, Parnormasight, DDLC so no slouches among them), but this is easily my favorite among them.

A very touching game. Music was great. I found the characters easy to sympathize with. The fantasy world is vibrant - really a visual delight. There isn't an emphasis on gameplay (mostly some puzzles and memorization). The real strength comes from the narrative. For a quick comparison, I found it to be much more emotional experience than 'To the Moon' which is also a good game in its own right. You could argue that 'To the Moon' had better pacing, but as a whole I enjoyed Rakuen more. A really charming experience.
