For those that enjoyed Slay the Spire, I'm really enjoying the just-released-to-1.0 Spellrogue. Between battles, you choose your "spells" (which are basically spaces in a worker placement game). During each turn in combat, you roll dice, and then decide which dice to put on which of your spells (worker placement spaces).

The developers admit they were 100% inspired by StS, but I really like the dice rolling and worker placement aspect: It feels that you have a lot more control of your "engine" during turns, since all your spells are always available, and you just need to feed it the right dice. Some of the spells do their own dice manipulation (rerolls, flip, add +2, etc.), so with some thought you can make the outcomes you want and have your engine run. It's really a textbook example of simple general rules with specific rules that trump generic, and the amount of variety is really staggering (significantly more variety than StS). Also, the art style is a lot less niche than StS.

If you liked StS, and like the aspects I mentioned here, you'll probably love Spellrogue.
