The pinnacle of mediocrity
I did have this for free but for almost a year i didn't touch it
And when i touch it...
It's seems like a cheap imitation of Mass Effect with XCOM dressing
The weapons even lack oomph
Graphics are even below Mass Effect.
There is some good though
+Levels are varied when they're not taking place in alien ship
+Surprising plot twist that plays with the concept of player and character
+Surprisingly fun gore and physics effect

If there is only button between Recommended and Not Recommended.
Ok the game promises action RPG, but all i got is after you choose quest you directly fight the main baddie (or small groups of it) without exploration or something. Also the game is peppered by story segments guaranteed to make some gamers bored with really slow story pacing.

Bottom line you may as well as getting Monster Hunter World instead. Or a proper MMORPG. or heck, the Sword Art Online games.

Bafflingly despite it is by the same company that release Tales (Japanese and English voice option) and SAO (Japan voice only, oddly because the anime has English dub) this game only has English voice acting without the option of choosing.

I know that the developer is either sick or out of commission or whatever but for all its faults this game is a honorable purchase because it gives me true freedom of air combat (most Ace Combat and HAWX nowadays stuck on playing story missions and after you done it, replaying story missions with unlocked stuff while this game, you can randomly generate air combat scenarios through quick match or create your own)

Sadly the community also mostly apathetic while they can be the last hope for this game (just look at Left 4 Dead 2, where the game is all but unsupported but it has thriving Workshop!)

Also the campaign of this game is bugged as hell, while the quick match and challenge is at least playable (and you can unlock stuff for skirmish by completing either quick match or challenge!)

In case this game spits error and don't work at you, go to game directory folder (steamapps\vectorthrust), open anything with .ini on it, and change the default resolution to your current resolution. Have fun!

Fair warning though the game seems to be randomly needs to close after several loadings but other than that, no tangible issues.

This is their one final chance and they ffff it up.
Why?
-Game still has optimization issues, absolute death in a competitive FPS game.
-Size ballooned from 18gb to 30gb without any meaningful change
-Menus are painfully laggy to navigate
Those might say "It's just your computer" but Doom 2016, Doom Eternal, and even World War Z which ran on the same engine* as Quake Champions didn't have such issue.

Pros
-Essentially combining Call of Duty and Team Fortress 2 (lite)
-Comprehensive customization
-Unique setting
-All maps support AI bots
-Moody and fitting soundtrack, also pretty good voice acting

Cons
-Limited number of maps
-They make the game class-based WITHOUT the distinction in appearance between classes. You'll need to actually highlight (aim at or check the icon on top of) the character to see the class.
-Weapon stats sometimes doesn't match with the "feel"
-Terrible AI even though the difficulty affect ALL AI not just your enemies but also AI teammates
-Odd art style
-No female (but then again this is back in the pre-Overwatch era where "soldiers" are assumed to be all male and no woman's land)
-No blood except for a vague hitsplash (WHY EVEN BOTHER RATING THIS T)
-DLC only adds few content and even after massive price reduce ain't worth it.
-Basically have potential but a lot of them are squandered.

Still, for the low price of FREE and the DLC (which only adds a few but said to be essential part of the game) is even below five dollars, it's a pretty jolly game for everyone. Except those who hang out with better games.

Kill me.

Might be pretty sub-par even for early 2012 standard, but hell if ain't awesome like a late night B-movie show.

It's fun when i see the community and things to do, but very obviously A LOT IS MISSING FROM THIS APP (i won't call this a "game" yet)
-Many options missing. No remap keys, must alt+enter to go fullscreen, no graphical options. I know for a Unity "game", this app is greatly optimized but there's a large lack of VR-less features
-Lack of Workshop, instead you must jump a million of hoops much harder than installing game mods just to import custom models.

Until the two is fixed, and i promise they will, i wouldn't recommend this yet.

When a demo version still has satisfying length and conclusion, also this might be the first time in history where a demo game has actual license attach to it compared to the full game...

Sure even for 2012 it felt more like a mobile game with bite sized set pieces and collectibles, but gdmn if it ain't fun although it didn't scale up to the sandboxy old titles.

At the time i buy and play this in 2015 the contract server is under maintenance for long time and i think recently it is time to go back...
But NO. CONTRACTS SERVER CLOSED. THE CLOSEST THING HITMAN HAS TO A SANDBOX AND EDITOR MODE AND IT IS PROBABLY THE REDEEMING FACTOR IS GONE.
BLAME IOI FOR MAKING THE MODE ONLINE ONLY.

(Yandere simulator is not an option because you discovered you lose. I still kind of recommend Blood Money although after you beat it, all you can do is to kill the same targets over and over again although Blood Money define the signature sandbox style of killing targets. And for the new HITMAN i will buy Episode 2 when the time comes because it will include the entirety of Episode 1).
