I'll start by saying yes I enjoyed the game. For anyone looking to jump into Callisto Protocol expecting a spiritual successor to Dead Space then just keep walking. This is more of cousin to Dead Space in any sense. The cause of the infection is different, the combat is different, the environment is different, and the situation is different. There are nods to the original there, but that is to be expected considering who the developers are.

All that said I did preorder the game and so I got to feel the early issues. The first 2 major patches to fix the stuttering issues essentially had me reinstalling the game each time in order to patch the files. I can happily say that conditions have massively improved and the game is very much playable now. Take the negative reviews out there with a few grains of salt. Anything older than 12/8/22 and complains about performance isn't credible anymore.

Combat is somewhat lack luster, puzzles are non-existent, stealth sections are a complete joke, and story is extremely basic. After the ending I'm not sure if further entries will follow the dead space esque formula or if we'll be going the political espionage route, time will tell. This game has alot that it can bring to the table, and it needs to, in order to be on the level of Dead Space. I would say my biggest let down was the expectation of a Bench-like upgrade system for the suit, weapons, and addons. I am excited to see what the Season Pass DLC has in store for us and maybe things will change for the better over time. Most of my gripes won't be answered until a second game comes out but I'll wait and see when that happens.

For reference my hardware is ryzen 2700x, 32gb ram, 4tb nvme ssd for game installs, RX6900 and no overclocking. My resolution is 5120x1440. I have been staying steadily above 60fps since the patches have rolled out.

Just going to start off by saying I nominated this for the "Haunts My Dreams" award. I was one of the original players back when the game first came out and that is what I'm relating this reward to. I remember back when the game was still difficult and presented a challenge on overkill difficulty before they added 100 different dlc mechanics, skill trees, and guns. I remember Hox Hud coming up in the beginning. I remember when you'd have to sit there in a group with your friends and actually plan how to hit a bank, a diamond store, or a train in order to beat it. Then they changed the mechanics, the dlc piled up, and Overkill became an easy difficulty and hackers started to run rampant. They changed the safe house for really no reason. Very quickly the game went from being something that I found enjoyable to being something that resembled a DLC cash grab nightmare and if that was what I was looking for I'd play something like CoD.

Suda? Is that you?

I loved the game. Gameplay kinda winds back to when I was playing No More Heroes on the Wii. Character depth is built throughout the entire playthrough and the story will have you double guessing yourself on whats going on at all times. While only 3 episodes seems really short for an episodic type game I'd still say it is worth it at full price. I did buy this during summer sale but have been watching it closely, and my main deterent for not buying it earlier was due to the length. In the future when season 2 comes out I'll have no problems shelling out full price.
