Helldivers is a bit of an enigma, but a thoroughly enjoyable one.

For a game with such a huge amount of focus on friendly fire, (accidental) team killing and other shenanigans, it surprising how friendly and skillful the community is in general.

Not once in 50+ missions have I encountered dickish behaviour. The players are friendly, the gameplay is a whole hell of a lot of fun and the missions range from 'dive in the park' easy to absolutely insane. You will kill a lot of teammates, get killed by even more of them but at the end of every mission you're blasting away at hordes of aliens while you wait for your shuttle to extract you, with epic music blasting into your ears. What's there not to like?

Calling in supply drops with directional-pad combinations gives a great depth of skill next to the actual positioning, shooting and anticipation of the gunplay. The ability to call in mechs, turrents, heavier secondary weapons or even a 4-man APC gives the game even more depth. ♥♥♥♥, you can team up in pairs to reload anti-tank rockets faster. All the while faced by the looming threat of getting killed by bugs, dropping pods or friendly fire. This is co-op! Did I mention that you can drop into other matches (or call in other players during your own) at any moment? And the overarching community-based campaign to eradicate all other species in the name of democracy? And the boss battles?

10/10 would cape swirl again while delivering freedom.

L.A. Noire is not the typical open-world Rockstar extravaganza of violence and free-roaming action, but rather a serious take on a detective drama set in the years after WWII. Although the open world is available to the player and it's possible to drive around in freedom, there is no real fun to be had in it. The action revolves mostly around investigating crime scenes, following up on leads and interviewing witnesses and/or suspects. The latter part is where the game really shines: all the faces in L.A. Noire are real actors, captured with great detail by a special camera tech. The result is an uncanny reproduction of their facial features, facial movements and emotions. Although the PC version is oddly inferior to the Xbox360 version due to some (very minor) technical/graphical glitches, it is still a brilliant showcase of the technology. This is a game which really depends on the technology behind it, but even when stripped down to its core it is still a worthwhile experience. Just don't expect GTA set in the 40/50's!
