This is obviously a project of passion, and is unlike any other action RPG I've ever played. The game was very much built on a love of Dungeons and Dragons, finding a way to get the feeling of a group adventure in a single player experience. The game is crazy ambitious, and stretches thin in certain aspects, but packs a punch in just the right areas as to allow you to happily overlook the flaws. I hope if they make a sequel, they keep it single player, as I believe what it accomplishes as a single player game is what will ensure that it's remembered for a long time.

Early Access Review
I'm having a suprisingly good time with this. If they ever add multiplayer, it won't even need the "main game". Building and testing machines is just a ton of fun. The missions are there, and they're pretty entertaining, but they aren't really my motivation for coming back to this. The usability and interface are extremely polished. Again, I didn't expect this much from an early access.

Once again, Tale of Tales gets a recommendation from me for you to NOT buy this game. Stick to Journey if you want to experience anything that this game does that even approaches interesting, as Journey did that particular aspect more meaningfully, and in a more engaging way. Yet again, they have a clunky, awkward, even painful interface. Yet again, they seem to make the act of discovery as boring and disappointing as possible. Yet again, they seem to approach emotion like some inhuman creature who thinks of our species as idiots. Tale of Tales just tries too hard to be some caricature of artistic in a desperate plea for respect. A plea that has been going on for over a decade without results.

I recommend you AVOID this. Basically, you get to listen to this annoying, unlikable guy complaining about how late his date is and why he even bothers for what feels like half an hour. During this time, your "interactivity" is limited to pressing Q to look at the clock, E to look at the counter, and G to look at the table.

Then you hit points where they force you to do a particular action by taking away all other options. You are forced to drink wine, forced to eat food, etc. If you don't, you just sit at a static screen for years. Basically, the game doesn't think about the player experience at all, and just wants to listen to itself talk.

I have no idea why they wanted to make this interactive at all. It's hard to believe they didn't have access to a video camera. They obviously had a microphone to record the inane yammering of a *doosh. Sell an MP3 if that's what you want to do. Film it if you want to communicate his fidgeting. Don't waste my time by making me press P.
