I recommend Eternal Radiance at the current 60% off discount. The popular user-defined tags on the store page should have VN first and foremost ahead of all other tags because ultimately, it is a VN with ARPG elements added on top.

If you are primarily looking for an ARPG, this may not be your first choice. You spend most of your time in combat but the combat portion of this game is not as developed as the VN. I believe the game would have been a greater experience if there was a heavier focus on fine-tuning the combat. As it stands, that portion of this game feels very (2000's) arcade feel.

As for the VN component of the game, the artwork is gorgeous and the world is pretty (I especially liked Ruby's character design). It plays like most other VNs in the way that you have a bit of freedom in exploring areas for context and conversation. Even if all I got was a VN from this game at this price, I would have been satisfied. Overall it's a decent VN.

TL;DR If you want a VN that changes things up a bit, then this is your title. The arcade-like experience is not bad but not mind-blowing. If you checked this out while looking for an Action RPG, shop around first because it's not the main highlight of the game.

I'm really into this particular slime sokoban game. It's cuter than the last slime one I played. +1 for the sound feedback for your moves because other than watching the move counter, it's a good way to tell if you actually used up a move. 10/10 super slimy game.

Atelier Ryza 2: Lost Legends & the Secret Fairy is an objectively better game than the first due to the many QoL improvements from its predecessor. I enjoyed my ~40 hours with the game and revisiting my favorite apathetic Alchemist.

Over, I think that Combat in Ryza 2 experienced a much more significant level of improvement compared to the Alchemy. I found myself feeling the opposite way from my previous review because synthesis was not the highlight of my experience this time around (Shocking... I know!!). To put this into context, Tao's speedy style of play made him a really popular choice for my general adventuring shenanigans. It was fun building up longer combos, generating AP at a faster rate, and then getting into a flow of using skills and items. Alternatively, I think the 7 playable characters lend a good variety of play styles that can keep things fresh throughout the somewhat short adventure. My only gripe with the combat is that it doesn't not fully utilize the perfect guard mechanic due to how the camera functions during battle.

In comparison, the Alchemy in Ryza 2 felt largely the same, with some added mechanics on top that I feel didn't shake things up for me. The base or the soul of the process stayed the same, but the few things added at the top layer of end-game Alchemy felt tacked on. I completed Ryza 1 not that long ago and since the synthesis felt too similar, I got disengaged with the whole process early on. It's still a deeply satisfying mechanic, but I believe the best way to appreciate Alchemy in this sequel is to space it out from the first game. I can't believe Ryza forgot all the ♥♥♥♥ she learned and created over the last 3 years!!!

To accentuate the greatly improved combat was the whole exploration diary/ruins system. I think it was a fantastic move to divide lore into research items and vestiges that combine progression with comprehension of historical events that are relevant to the present. It's a good mechanic that doesn't drag on and it was a joy to explore the beautifully designed ruins and dungeons. The exploration was easily one my favorite parts of the game.

Ryza 2 is a great 40h experience that builds on the first. It's an easy recommendation for a casual JRPG or anyone new to the franchise. Ryza needs to get her ♥♥♥♥ together though!!

In a time when many great works of fiction (TV, Anime, Manga, etc) see their potential cut short due to budget constraints or limited marketing runs, there is an increased appreciation for stories that are told fully (and expertly) to their conclusion. Octopath Traveler II is such a game in which 8 incredible stories are individually told to fruition, then coalesce into an epic journey to win back tomorrow.

Playing through OT2 is akin to watching 8 great anime mini-series that combine many of the best parts from my favorite shows. There were brief moments that had me thinking along the lines of... "Ahh that definitely gave me a Sengoku Basara vibe" or "Maybe this is what Arslan's story would have looked like if he didn't need a game, 8 seasons, and a movie to develop his character and win back his nation" or maybe even "Yeah Luffy! That meat do be lookin' good!!". The point is that within these 8 stories is something for everyone and chances are, that something is a story that's told with great care and detail. They even have a proper detective in there! This game belongs to a very exclusive list of games in which I actively refuse to skip any part of the story. Popcorn is highly recommended for your first playthrough.

As you can probably guess from my huge blurb above, the game has a substantial story. Despite this, the game does not skimp out on RPG and combat elements. OT2 is a refreshing game in which the abundance of choice is actually fun rather than overwhelming. It's possible to get lost in all the options and spend hours upon hours deciding on how to build your characters for an upcoming fight. While there is no apparent difficulty setting, you can mold your experience based on the constraints you place on yourself, your approach to the story, and your team-building efforts.

Let's not forget the music! OT2 probably has the best use of music (and of course some of the best tracks) to dramatic effect. The game knows when silence is appropriate and when to ramp up the OST. Oftentimes during serious conversations, they let the ambient sounds do the heavy lifting to allow the player to focus on the meat of the conversation. Small details such as the crackling fire during a campfire or the howling wind during a painful conversation really elevate a lot of scenes in this game. Add to that the epic and dare I say even motivational tracks that ramp up as moments of tension start to peak. All the small things combined definitely sets OT2 apart from its peers.

I knew from the moment I finished all the first character chapters that OT2 had an all-star cast of VAs!! From the voice of Dio all the way to the original voice of Lucy Heartfilia and Haruhi Suzumiya (Aya Hirano), I knew I would listen intently to all of the characters' lines. From an absolute cuteness standpoint, nothing will ever trump the execution of Ochette's iconic lines.

All of the above culminated in a truly breathtaking 100+ hour experience. I took my time, explored every corner of the world, and even tried to note down my adventures by means of a guide. This game has so much to offer and if I ever had to describe a game that had "soul", this would be it. Buy OT2 so you too can appreciate this masterwork!

I'm emotionally spent after completing this game. I felt all of the good vibes and progression from the first 5 titles coming together to build up this masterpiece! As good as some of the previous titles were, they all walked so that Terra, Locke, and the gang could soar!!

I previously thought FF4 to be my favorite story among FF Pixel Remasters, but after taking everything in, it's only right to give that title to FF6. The game delivered a fulfilling story for such a wide array of unexpected characters! The game knows how to pace itself and has especially good timing when inserting (excellent) scenes for comedic effect—something that was really developed in FF5. Some storylines went deep while others only touched the surface for the sake of mystery and exploration, but at the end of it all you get a plethora of well-done romanticized plot lines that joined together a ragtag crew of rebels and misfits on a beautiful quest to save the world!!

As is the trend with the PR titles, the combat in 6 is a direct improvement from its predecessors. Instead of the largely temporary rotating cast from 2/3/4, we get 14(!!!) playable characters that stick around near the end and lend combat styles that are unique to each other. This freedom of choice is a large departure from previous titles, but it is a welcome change that did not feel like a half-baked design choice considering how deep you can go mechanically with more than half the cast. Whether you're a fan of the agile Thief (Correction: Treasure Hunter!!), Blue Magic, Dragoons, or Martial Artists, the game's got you covered!

With regards to the soundtrack, I also think that FF6 has the best OST among all remasters. There are a few tracks in FF6 that really deliver a range of emotions starting off on melancholic notes and evolving into a progressive and hopeful message. Several of these tracks fit perfectly with how some character arcs are told. Terra's Theme really separates itself from other opening themes in the FF universe.

I can't believe I'm now finished with the entire Pixel Remaster set. It was truly an epic series of adventures and probably the best value for my money in recent years. As someone who wanted to start off this year rediscovering my JRPG roots, FF1-6 was an excellent choice. Thank you Square Enix for topping off my lovely FF experience with FF6—an absolute masterpiece!!

Hogwarts Legacy has been a wildly entertaining experience so far. I haven't touched anything related to the game since I finished all the OG books, but diving into this game brought back some fond memories from my childhood.

I think the biggest part of this game that I loved is how it captured the vivid scenery of Hogsmeade as described in the books. The game also managed to deliver that first day of classes type excitement from year-to-year—albeit in a condensed late-bloomer 5th year package. So far, this game has been the best depiction of the wizarding world in game format. You honestly feel it the moment you get sorted and even more so when you first exit the school to travel to Hogsmeade! This game's open world is vast and beautiful, and I haven't been so happy to fully explore a game like this since Skyrim. In the blink of an eye, I noticed that 70h had gone by without me even thinking about it. If it wasn't obvious enough, I really enjoyed my time at Hogwarts.

As far as performance goes, I recognize others with stronger GPUs had issues. Personally, I did not experience any major issues on my end with my RTX 2080. I maybe experienced stuttering for about 1-2 minutes total out of 70h of play, but relative to my peers I basically had a stress-free experience.

The combat is beautiful and definitely has flashy moves, but I do think some of the cooler spells come a little bit too late into the story to fully enjoy. In that same breath, the ability to fly with your broom also feels like it comes quite late as well (or maybe it just felt that way because I was taking in the beautiful sights).

When it comes to exploration, the huge amount of collectibles may be intimidating but they don't feel like a chore because majority of the collectibles serve a greater purpose than just non-essential pick-ups. Most of the collectible categories come with a good bit of lore to really enhance your understanding of that world, and the rest are polished cosmetics for either your character or base-building. It was actually fun collecting them all!

My only gripe about this game which I'm sure will be fixed soon is that I am currently locked out of 100% because the Biscuit side quest's lock is bugged (I opened it prematurely) and won't spawn. I'm not too bothered about it though as every other element in the game was fun to play out through and through!!

I know this game is very controversial, but even a bad parent (author) can raise an excellent child (story) that can outgrow them if given the right environment and attention. This game has grown bigger than its creator, and the developers+designers that worked on Hogwarts Legacy really put their love into it. It's really hard to create anything this beautiful if you come at it with a hateful heart. Give the game a fair look if you can be a partial person. Screw the author, but seriously the rest of the team did a great job.

I'm now 5/6 of the Pixel Remasters completed and the more of them I finish, the deeper I fall in love with the full package.

FF5's main feature is a vastly improved job system that corrects the gaps that were present in FF3. Exploring and mastering the different jobs is less tedious and the equipment distribution, considering all the options, is a marked improvement from 3 to 5. These improvements do a great job to encourage trying out different combinations throughout the game.

It also features a relatively strong story that is more evenly paced compared to FF4 and does a good job of sprinkling comedic elements without detracting from the experience. It has a slightly lighter tone compared to FF4, but does not fall short in the storytelling department. I personally laughed and cried along with Bartz and co. while exploring the twists and turns this title had to offer. If I had to describe this title, I'd call it "Just gorgeous!".

While this version does not have the extra content as the old version that's currently no longer being sold on Steam, this PR does balance it out by streamlining a lot of good features that are present across 1-6PR. I loved all 40h I sunk into this game, and it definitely ranks high among my FF completions!

One Piece Odyssey is a great game for One Piece fans and does all the right things when it comes to fan service—delivering some (not all) of the truly iconic moments in the franchise! I constantly found myself holding back tears when playing through these moments through the Memoria system (think KH in terms of delivery). The game knows its audience and was definitely able to expertly repackage treasured experiences to hit all the right notes of nostalgia. In that regard, I am grateful for this game.

As a JRPG, it's very middle of the line. I did not see any groundbreaking gameplay mechanics that were present in titles of a similar price range. The combat does not pose much of a challenge overall as you progress the story, but there does exist a "challenge mode" in the post-game. This would have been better inserted earlier in the game to encourage accessory fusion and more critical thinking in terms of upgrades.

The collectibles in the game are also weirdly designed. It's a bit of a pain in the butt that breakable containers respawn even if they no longer contain anything for you to collect. Some do respawn the loot but these instances are few and far between. Additionally, the majority of the collectible types (character skill cubes) lull you into believing that the conditions to collect them all (or most) are not too tight, however, you are soon hit with the realization that there is 1 class of collectibles that are super precise and can be a pain to backtrack to complete (yaya cubes). If you combine this mixed messaging with the respawning crate/vase issue, then it's mildly annoying to track what you've picked up. Not the biggest issue, but an issue nonetheless if you care about collectibles.

The game has flaws but it is better looked at as a filler arc that draws some of its strongest content from existing canon arcs. It's a story experience with casual elements of combat and exploration. Buy it if you are a One Piece fan, but shop around first if you are new to JRPGs, One Piece, or have a limited budget.

FF3 was a pleasure to play! I liked it quite a bit more relative to the 3D Remake due to how streamlined the experience was (no more artificial job grinding under a sub-optimized job exp system). I don't think it particularly stands out among the 5 Pixel Remaster titles I've played, but it definitely got me pumped as it introduced the job system that we all know and love in more modern FF titles and other inspired JRPGs.

FF3 features the adorable onion kids to indirectly remedy the lack of permanence felt so heavily in FF2. It also features the not-perfect but objectively better MP system that FF1 had in comparison to FF2. Lastly, after playing 4+5 back to back right after, the summon effects in 3 (Leviathan for example) are 100% flashier in FF3 than both FF4/5(PR).

I rank FF3 directly in the middle among all Pixel Remaster titles. I am ultimately grateful that this is where they went with it and that the job system artifact was passed on to future titles. That's another fun +1 to the digital FF collection!
