Great game. I waited until December 2023 to start playing. About 3 years after the initial launch. Is it perfect ? No. But it's good enough that I can't think of any other game I've been immersed in so deeply. I feel spoiled and thinking about upcoming games doesn't fill me with excitement.

It's a wing commander game that is better than the game who the wing commander guy is scamming people for.

Great sandbox mud game. Buy this version over the older "vanilla" version, so that the money gets to the programmer.

Possibly the best realtime graphics I've seen. Amazing character detail and lighting. Ive never seen a story told in a videogame through facial expressions.

Amazing atmosphere and game mechanics. Do not watch any spoilers if you plan on playing the game. I accidently did which ruined a major suprise for me.

It really should not be forgotten just how badly Bethesda fumbled the marketing for this game. Here we have the most fun single player shooter released in the last half if not full decade and people had absolutely no idea it was going to be worth a damn until some random dude released a cellphone video of a 3rd party company (nVidia) doing a tech demo where they just happened to be playing DOOM to showcase new hardware, and just happened to be using a mouse and keyboard with a wide FoV set for a close up PC monitor.

This is why there were so many ♥♥♥♥♥♥ 4 posts early on. Bethesda all but tried to sabotage the public's perception of DOOM on purpose by making it look dull and boring. And hell, with as wide of a gap between how good the game was presented to be vs how good it actually is, you could pretty easily argue that's exactly what might have happened.

edit: Then again, given how grossly incompetent Bethesda has shown themselves to be in so many other areas... well, never attribute to malice what can be explained by incompetence.
