It took a long time to get to this point, but I am so happy we are here. The unit list for warriors of chaos is just absolutely ridiculously long and it brings me so much joy.

So I'm going to temper this with the fact that I'm a long time fan of both the Total War series and Warhammer so I was always going to buy this game and have a good time. The amount of love and creativity CA has put into this series is something that needs to be absolutely rewarded because they really poured their heart out into these games and this one is no exception. In it's unpatched release state it's definitely a little buggy and the direct comparison of the release factions of 3 after playing WH2 for years is a little rough. There just isn't quite the same variety of units comparing the daemons roster to say the Lizardmen or Skaven rosters after 3+ lord packs, but I think that's unfair. What this game offers is lovingly executed, the animations for the units are SPECTACULAR, the sound and story is awesome, the new campaign/siege battles/domination mode are all exciting additions and provide a ton of variety to the formula.

It is buggy and needs tweaking right now, and I know that would often make people not recommend this game, but CA has repeatedly shown with this series and previous releases that they WILL stand by their products and keep working on them until they're some of the best gaming experiences you can get. They WILL release awesome DLC paired with additional FLC updates to keep improving the experience, they WILL patch the game to fix a lot of the jenkyness.

UPDATE: Immortal empires is out, fun as ♥♥♥♥, game is much less buggy, coop is phenomenal. It was a rocky release but it's a 10/10 purchase now. You don't get better strategy games than this.

PS. 40k plz

I loved the first game, the second is no different. It's certainly more ambitious and if they took more time to really polish up the production values on the campaign this easily could've been a 60-70 dollar game, but as is it's well worth 40 bucks, and even more so if you can get it on sale. The mechanics are fun, the lore is a blast and the model design and execution of the ships is well done.

If creative assembly ever tries to make a 40k total war game I'll beg the devs to coordinate because you could slice a simplified version of this game into a land based 40k:total war game and charge me 100 dollars for it without second thought.

This game sold itself as a joke parody of PUBG and I feel slightly decieved because it's actually kinda a better game

In the 5 days I've owned this game I've spend almost 20 hours in it and want more

As a kid who grew up with RCT2 and 3, my god this is the game we didn't deserve but definitely the one I need right now. It offers a powerful building set which takes a couple hours to get the hang of and many more to master, which feels like a game that grew up with me from the tycoon games. The missions are not particularly difficult but provide the platform to make a themed park with some guidance and it feels quite rewarding. I'm only a third of the way through most of the story missions and I do wish there were more layers to the objectives so you can spend more time in one park, but I think I'll find my fix in the challenge mode after i'm done.

Plz come out with expansions, just take my money

This is definitely an extension of the first game rather than something completely new. However, considering how dutifully CA has been fleshing out the Warhammer Fantasy battle world, it is a most welcome addition. It wonderfully delivers on all of the insanity of warhammer, including dinosaurs, dinosaurs riding other dinosaurs, and cocky mother@#$%ing elves. Additionally it brings some of the best total war mechanics to date. The RPG elements they tried to include in Rome 2 just work better in the fantasy setting, the balance and rock paper scissors unit choice has additional depth than the sparse feeling unit selection of Shogun 2 and finally, the faction assymetry I can safely say is some of the best presented in any strategy game to date.

A note about DLC: It is definitely coming for this game, there will be additional races added and I have no problem with this and the expected price point of 10-15 dollars. This is the only way that CA would feasibly manage to put all of the smaller races into this game. Even if you do not purchase the DLC the races will be added into the campaign and it will add a lot of replay value to see how the campaign dynamics change with new, fleshed out factions. From seeing how much love they put into each individual faction, this feels justified and I 100% don't feel that any of the DLC will be a waste of money, but this is mostly just due to how well executed these different races are, if any of the factions turns into a "copy paste" of another one, I would change this opinion.

Can't wait for the modders to get some more custom maps in the campaign though

I love the 40k universe and this game presents is spectacularly. The art design nails the cartoonishly grim feel of the universe and the campaign presents it in a similar way as Dawn of War II (in all the right ways). The actual gameplay feels like a refined version of the naval battles from Rome total war, and the additional abilities and general number of ships you're commanding at any given time makes it generally more enjoyable and more of a tactical experience. The developers basically nailed the amount of persistence and customization to give the ships, both making you feel invested in upgrading ships and miserable when you make a mistake and let one of your prized battlecruisers go up in flames, while still maintaining some amount of balance for players who are just beginning the game. The factions are very assymmetric and this leads to some favored matchups depending on which mission is being played. While the basic cruiser clash is quite balanced, things like convoy missions are much easier with the Eldar than say the Imperium, due to differences in ship speed and strength. This is still being worked on by the developers and in a few patches I think it will be really quite good, but even as is, the slight imbalances act more as quirks to work your strategy around, rather than straight up flaws that make the game unenjoyable.
While there are complaints about the 2d layout of this space game, it does make sense from its tabletop origins and after several matches I stopped questioning why my mile-long flying-space-cathedral had a design that was somewhere between Admiral nelsons flagship and a roman ram ship. You will often hear people whining that there aren't more factions, do not take this as a foul cry against this game, but rather know that people love this universe deeply and want to see their favorite races in the game. However when they do come out with the (I hope) inevitable dlc that includes the Necrons, Tau, tyrannids, and other factions, I will be buying that without a second thought.
This game is fun. It's very niche and has a bit of a learning curve, but it is thoroughly and completely enjoyable to play and I'll give props to the developers for letting me ram space cathedrals into floating ork rustbuckets. Do them the favor and give them your money, they've earned it.
