Vouloir forcer les voix françaises à signer un contrat pour transformer leur voix en IA, et les virer lorsqu'ils refusent ? Vous devriez avoir honte.

I'm editing my review after sitting on the game for a few hours, and I'm going to go pretty in-depth into spoilers, so beware.

As a whole, I really enjoyed my time with the game, but I do think there's some pretty big misses in terms of storytelling, though I do think part of it was due to budget constraint.

The spoilers below is going to sound pretty negative, but like I said, I really did like the game. The gameplay loop is solid, the characters are all pretty endearing and you get easily attached to them, the overall aesthetic is on point, there's a lot to love here.

From the very start to its first real ending, the game is a gem. Despite the seeds that have been put pretty early on, you don't really expect the twist and personnally, it made eager to go back to that second round, hoping that I'd be able to uncover what is truly going here.

And that's where the game starts to fall apart, because you don't actually uncover much. You're just replaying the game a second time, with OP weapons, just going through the motions. Except for one part, which might actually be the best segment in the whole game : Mike's side-mission.
Why ? Because it's exactly what I wanted the second playthrough to be : The team trying to figure out what's going on for real, peeling away at the mystery. I believe that all six characters should've had something similar to what Mike got. It would've made this second playthrough feel less like padding.

It would've also helped with making the ending and the change of tone at the end less abrupt, if both the players and the team had been able to uncover that the whole Munroe thing is just a red-herring.

My biggest issue, however, is the ending section, as it throws away pretty much everything that made the game interesting. No more explorations, no more deaths, just 10 minutes of running and one-shotting enemies. I don't even understand why you can still loot healthpacks considering that you can't actually die anymore. And even with the three notes that you get, Katherine X and Prime Katherine feel like last-minute additions with how little infos we get about.. any of it, really.

But the real issue with this ending section is that it completely removes the rest of the cast from the game. And that's a big problem because I'd wager that most people probably played Katherine the least, as she's usually the first to die in the first playthrough, and the side-stuff to achieve the true ending doesn't involve her. Personnally, I played 80% of the game with Ashley and Javier, so I felt zero attachment to what was happening.

You've built this interesting cast with unique personnalities, took the time to have unique reactions and dialogue for each of them, making us care about them, only for them to just be throw-aways zombies that you one-shot. Zero closure, nothing.

Just like the second playthrough, if the endgame had involved everyone, it would've been a genuine ten out of ten. Having the team actually work together to escape, interacting with one another and being able to choose who you want to play as in the end.. Such wasted potential. :(

All-in-all, very fun game, Ashley and Javier are the goats, but the atmosphere and writing take a huge dive halfway through.
