I didnt know what was the big deal about this 8-bit game. I was quite resistant to it actually, but seeing as with the stem release got new graphics and all I took a shot, and damn am I glad I did.
Im surprised as to how in depth this game is.
My only complaint is that the storage system is a bit willy nilly and that I find there is no point to mining and exploring if you have your stockpiles already overstuffed.
The sheer complexity makes it interesting.
It has truly surpassed my expectations. I am glad there are mods to help manage my dorfs and an entire subreddit devoted to funny things that occur in game.
Honestly, this is the best game ive played in a long time. They really have thought of everything. Honestly there are tons of things that I could mention like the necessity of beer in dorf livlihood or the pansy assed elves not wanting to buy anything Ive made Or the rarity of books, and the ability have a library and a scribe that can replicate the works you are able to buy from the merchants. 10/10 seriously a fun game.
Wish it was available on android and I would play it all day.

Edit: Here I am two years later. Just wanted to share a vignette to assist if this is your jam. I started a fortress, and a warelizard immigrated to my city. I let him in thinking no problem the more the merrier. Then one full moon he bit someone and then everyone began becoming ware-people and I didnt have a proper hospital set up to lock these folks in.... then when the doctor contracted the disease, he began giving to the patients.
Like I said...Great game.
Losing has never been so fun. Its just about the stories that we tell along the way... or some ♥♥♥♥

Alright, 29 hours in and here I am. Will do my best with no spoilers.
I still enjoy this game for what its worth. There are a few glaring bugs, like Jackie's bowl of noodles not fitting right in his hands or dying and respawning INSIDE my nomad companion in her dope machinegunning truck only to hop right out across the passenger seat to fight a group of baddies.
I find that this game is really dynamic but for me I feel like it keeps going directly back to murder everything. Thats not to say that you cannot do stealth the whole time, in fact some missions you get paid extra for them but it feels like where some baddies can just spot you and sound the alarms immediately. There are quickhacks that can deter this but it feels like this only sometimes works.
It does indeed feel like Deus-Ex meets GTA but IMO the story is much better than both games by sheer changeability.

I have been able to scale up my FPS which I had never really paid attention to prior to getting this game. I have a Radeon RX 580 and a Ryzen 7 1700 which seem to handle it pretty well after tuning my graphics settings. At first I was struggling to get over 21 fps but it was because my resolution was set for the size of my screen 3248x2420 or whatever. So all I had to do to get better fps is to scale it back to a more reasonable size for my meh gpu. It seems to be at 100% all the time so I guess thats nice. Kind of wish I had spent a few hundred more on a newer fancier card as this has been the first game that really puts my card through its paces.
I am absolutely happy that I purchased this game, though I wish I had got something for pre-ordering as it looks like I didnt have any reason to do so especially considering the waiting. Either way, I am excited to see what all they do for updates as it does need to get tuned up a bit but Im not at all upset I purchased this and look towards playing this game for many more hours
