This used to be a negative review. It was a skill issue. A little bit of bhopping goes a long way.

It's like Brotato with Witchery and summoning mods. A bit rougher around the edges, but that's what Early Access is for. The normal price is a little high for the genre, but I got it on sale for $5.59 and I'm happy with the purchase.

I can't recommend this game in this state. The gameplay is actually great. I love the upgrades system and the overall meta-progression. The art style is pretty good too.

But the performance is unacceptable. In the later rounds I am regularly dropping to single-digit FPS, and I'm playing on a pretty high-end PC with an RTX 3090 and an i9 10900k. Someone with a more reasonable setup is going to be completely unable to play the game. Once the performance is fixed, this game will be up there with the greats of the genre.

This game is raw, unfiltered dopamine. Being told round after round "You broke the game!" is super satisfying.

That said, this game is worth what it costs and not really any more. It's super fun, but there isn't a lot of content. There's a small handful of items and food, and also a few black market items. Enough content for a few hours, but there's only going to be so many combinations of items you can make. But it's $5 so that's not a problem. It's definitely worth that!

The dev really needs to take another look at balancing in this game. Looking at the list of stats, one would assume there are many possible viable builds. Unfortunately though, the only way to get through the higher difficulties is with one specific kind of build, that being one based on basic attacks. Start with the skill that just shoots out extra basic attacks and then stack attack speed, bullet damage, first skill cooldown, and target amount. This will always result in victory and no other build comes remotely close.

One cannot successfully clear the game with a build focused on elemental attacks. You will always die from not having enough damage before getting to the point that you can really begin to scale the elemental damage. The main problem is there's no way to start with something that benefits a lot from elemental damage, save for the lightning skill. But that skill doesn't hit nearly often enough to make up for not scaling bullet damage. If it were possible to start with basic attacks having a significant chance to proc lightning, that would solve the issue. But there is no tower "class" that lets you do this. The closest one can get is a basic attack build that transitions to more elemental effects in the last couple waves, but that's just the same build with a hint of flavor.

Melee based builds have a similar problem, though to a somewhat lesser extent. If you get lucky you can get a melee build going well enough to make it through, but it is far less consistent than just focusing on basic attacks.

At first glance I expected this game to have replay value similar to that of Brotato. Unfortunately right now it's a poor imitation of a much better game. Setting up a basic attack build is fun the first couple times, but eventually you want to try something different, you know? But the game isn't set up to allow that.

This game is worth about $3. If it goes on sale for that much or less, buy it. If not, you'd be much better off buying Brotato, Halls of Torment, Death Must Die, NIMRODS, etc.

Basically it's like if Vampire Survivors was a boomer shooter. It's pretty good, and there's a lot of content. Overall I recommend picking it up when it's on sale.

There are a few small things that are somewhat frustrating. Bullets that ricochet behind a wall won't deal any damage even if they hit an enemy. You have to be able to see the enemy in order to do damage, even with weapons that should be able to damage around corners. And there's a similar problem with the Shield Sumotori. If you shoot the ground behind it to ricochet into its back, you won't do any damage. You have to be physically standing behind it to deal damage. Even piercing weapons don't deal damage through the shield (with the exception of the boomerang, which will deal damage on its return path). This issue sounds like a small thing, but ricocheting is an important part of many of the guns in this game, and the fact that it's held back by, to be frank, poor programming, is disappointing.

Buy it on sale. Never pay $15 for this game.

In its current state I fully recommend this game to anyone who enjoys the genre, especially if you also like Hades and/or Diablo-style games. There isn't a huge amount of content, but for $7 I consider it currently already worth it.

Having read the weekly development posts, it seems like this will likely become one of the best games in this genre. The development team seems passionate and they're holding back the Act II update until they're satisfied with it
