SCP: 5K : Forgotten Masterpiece

SCP: 5K was a game I initially approached with caution. Like many titles in the mid-price range, I expected it to look promising during development, but fall short in execution. I’m happy to say; I was completely wrong.

Gunplay and Gameplay Experience
From the moment I started playing, I was very impressed by the gunplay. The current version of the game features a variety of weapons, each of which you can eventually customize to match your preferred aesthetic. The weapons feel fantastic to use with the physics, muzzle fire, and feedback that are similar, but maybe better like in 'Ready or Not'. There's a satisfying weight to each gun, and the attention to detail (In sound, design and realism) is great. For instance, when picking up a gun, you're forced to a animation inspect that shows your ammo. If you miss this, like I did at first, you’ll need to hold R to manually check your ammo later. This small little detail is enough to affect immersion.

There’s a noticeable hierarchy in weapon performance too. As you progress, some weapons clearly outperform others, giving a sense of progression and purpose to your gun choices. But, of course, everything is up to preference and situation.

As for the gameplay itself, it's immersive but still a feels lacking in some way. Even in early levels, navigating can be confusing. By the time you reach the second or third level, finding your way around without carefully reading maps or clues feels like hunting for a needle in a haystack. On the other hand, if you’re like me and enjoy soaking in atmosphere and visual design, Area-12’s haunting aesthetic might distract you in the best (Worst) way possible.

The in-game radio support from CROW, who's your supposed "eyes in the sky", is promising at first but becomes dead like quickly. They speak frequently at the beginning, then go mysteriously silent in later stages. The enemy AI is also hit or miss. Sometimes they land godlike shots, and other times they completely whiff at point-blank range or shoot at walls when catching a glimpse of you.

Lighting is manageable. While certain areas demand use of a flashlight or the (unfortunately bad) night vision, they’re still navigable. You can often brute-force your way through by charging ahead or baiting enemies into better-lit areas.

Lore, Enemies and Immersion
The lore is fed through collectible notes and, eventually, direct encounters with various (but few) SCPs. While these encounters aren’t always terrifying, especially if you mess up the suspense of the first one; The design and atmosphere are undeniably impressive. Each enemy feels unique and true to the SCP Foundation’s weird, original source material.

The notes you find are meaningful and consistently relevant. They provide backstory, gameplay hints, or context for what's happened in the facility. It's a small touch that adds depth without overwhelming the player with exposition.

Immersion is where SCP: 5K really shines. The game shows off realistic physics and visuals while maintaining solid performance, apart for moments with large enemy spawns or activate environmental systems like sprinklers. Even then, unless you're playing on a low-end PC, performance dips are minor. That said, the sound design deserves special shoutout: the echo of footsteps behind you or a sudden jump scare will make you take a short break to catch your bearings.

Final Thoughts
Would I recommend SCP: 5K? Absolutely. Is it ready for a full release? Not yet, and that’s perfectly fine! This is an Early Access title, and I’m genuinely impressed with how far it’s come. When I first discovered it a year ago through a video, I had no idea I’d be this invested. It barely feels like the same game. And I mean that in the very best way.

For €19.50, it's more than worth the price if you’ve got the time, patience, and appreciation for a slow-burn horror FPS. Pick it up, and dive in. Just don’t forget to check your ammo.

I'll just get this out there right away: Nuclear Nightmare has its faults, but at the end of the day, it's a masterpiece.

After just a short session with two different groups, I've already fallen in love with this game. The new player experience in games like this, that throw everything at you without really explaining much (especially the infection test), can easily create confusion and doubt in your gameplay experience. (No, neither I nor anyone else in the group did the tutorial.)

The game truly has its tense moments, especially at night. The music and ambient sounds add to the atmosphere, and when you can’t see a thing in front of you, even your own footsteps feel like your worst enemy. Or maybe it’s your teammates, who might accidentally walk into a claymore and end the entire run. With its survival horror characteristics, the game also initially comes across as a social deduction game due to the uncertainty. (and the case where only one of your friends starts with a gun.)

The game does need some tweaking in certain areas, particularly the user interface. At least in my humble opinion. Some might find the weapon system a bit confusing, especially how aiming works, but personally, I like it. It fits the slightly low-quality graphical style and even adds to the rough-edged charm of the voice chat.

Did I enjoy the game despite not completing a single mission successfully? Yes. Do I believe it's worth the 6.89€? Absolutely. It has its own unique charm, just like other popular games of 2024. Sure, it still has a long way to go, but that's the nature of an Early Access game. The developer seems passionate enough about improving the game, which gives me confidence in supporting them by purchasing it. And so should you, whoever's reading this.

CS2, formerly known as CSGO. It's a game that many may like, love, despise or wish hellfire upon it. As of writing this review, I've decided, that from my own experiences and views, it's a game that's a important part of me, whether I like it or not. So, I shall get into my own views and opinions more deeply.

While playing the game, I've met many people, mostly Russians. That's your standard experience. I've met good Russians, bad Russians, neutral Russians, but one thing connects them all. The rage. Russians (in my own experience) get agitated quite easily. You may be able to befriend one in early rounds, but if the game is going badly, they may get angry at you for no apparent reason.
It's not bad that you have Russians in your team, however sometimes they may be a nuisance. I like them, they're funny and occasionally good at the game, most often atleast average. Please do not hate Russians, one bad apple doesn't mean every apple is rotten.

Second thing I would like to talk about is game servers. You want to hear something funny? As long as you're in Europe, no matter which server you play on, you will meet a Russian. Yes, another Russian point. They deserve recognition.

Thirdly, which is actually a negative atleast in my opinion, is the new premier game mode, and it's rankings, more commonly known as Cs rating. I don't know what people were smoking when they decided to make it, and how it was distributed among players, but it most certainly hasn't been showing how good a invidual is. Seems like a cheap copy of some other game's competitive system, but the way it's been built into cs, it just doesn't fit.

My fourth and last point, will be the skins. We all love skins, don't we? They're certainly a important part of the game, however, when a teammate throws the round by trying to pick out the coolest and most appealing skin from the ground, they become a problem. However, that's just human nature, and it's called greed. No way around it, I love skins, you love skins, we all love skins. Which means, we all love wasting money!

This wasn't a actual review, just decided to update my old review, which was just a dot. This seemed like a slightly venting review, but I believe some may see this as funny, or just as a negative outlet. Who knows.
