Hmm, I haven't heard any complains about it breaking some blocks, also it should work in multiplayer

I was going to use an avatar I made in VRChat, I think its bones are currently not currently set up for Scrap Mechanic. I am not sure how to make new bones for Scrap Mechanic

You mean pre-existing as SM game character, or if you got it of internet or smt?
Either way, as long as you have anims, I don't see a problem, tho my suggestion is to have original SM character bones in your fbx as well, so game doesn't freaks out.

Builder Bot mod requires to edit only few lines, try it once, if failed, just verify game files, but I encourage you to try to install it, simply follow steps.
