Great game. Very addictive game loop. Lots of stupid crap you can do.

Please give us a VR version. If you make a VR version I will buy it again!

Has to be one of the best purchases I've ever made on Steam. This is an excellent game. The progression is great, the exploration gets very interesting, and I've never seen a game change the same environment so much. By the middle I found myself getting confused a bit when wandering because it looked like a different planet. By the end stage it is a different planet more or less.

I played a lot of it before 1.0 and then after it I have gone back and started over doing the whole thing and it has been well worth it. Get it. It is worth full price.

How is it that everyone is always going on about how bad Cyberpunk is on older consoles, but this POS has been out for a long time now and is still a giant turd? If you must play this, you must install a bunch of mods. Unacceptable.

Do not buy if you don't have fast unlimited internet

I used to really like this game but now that I'm on satellite internet it is completely unplayable. Game constantly lags out to the point of complete packet loss. If I try to play it I have to keep quitting and restarting every 5-7 minutes. I only want to play single player. The stupid insistence on requiring an online connection absolutely ruins the game.

Early Access Review
Ok so here's the thing: I played this game months ago at a friend's house and it was cool. One of the best early access titles I had played. Good atmosphere with some challenge, despite having no threatening entities. Almost a year later I figure it must have improved a lot since then and I should buy it.

Wouldn't you know it? Of course you wouldn't, it's insane. The game has gotten worse. They have made negative progress in that time. It's not that they have done nothing, it's that they have actively worked to make their game worse. Not only was there pretty much nothing added, but features that used to be there are now missing. Crafting has been dumbed down but not at all improved, there is a completely pointless editor included now and for some reason islands are super close. There are shipwrecks all over the place and you just find lots of loot. The game not only makes you wonder things like "Why can't I hit this tree?", but also "Why am I violently ill from eating a potato?". The simplification and easy resources bring on a feeling of pointlessness which quickly fades into boredom.

Until this situation is fixed, DO NOT BUY. They have not made good progress. If you could see the progress of this game as a stock it would be in a massive down trend.

It's interesting. It has a lot of potential. This is however, VERY early access. I'm talking prototype phase early access. This is not beta, or even alpha. If you like seeing games in that state though, it's pretty cool. There is quite a bit to play around with already and I can see some good ideas here.

Early Access Review
UPDATE June 12, 2015:

I have been asked to update my review. Ok, I finally got around to it. Unfortunately it's not going to improve things. When I tried to play to update my opinion I found some insane things that simply stopped me from playing. Here are the most important reasons I quit playing after only a few minutes. I will leave it at that:

* The popup tooltips do not have any support for controllers. So I can run around in the game with a controller but have to switch to my mouse and keyboard when a tooltip pops up? Right...
* The guns are placed in THE WORST way I have ever seen. EVER. Why, WHY, would a person hold a gun like that? Take the handgun, when I picked this gun up the game character holds it way up to the right blocking a big portion of the screen. When you aim it moves it way over to the left and way back in a way that makes absolutely no sense at all. It feels like the character is somehow holding the gun beside their head, and behind it at the same time. Soon after picking up the pistol I picked up some sort of a rocket launcher. This gun took up more than HALF THE SCREEN. Simply unacceptable.

That was when I shut the game down. Read the original review if you like. I'm out.

Original Review:

Keeping in mind that this is an early access review (although when it is this short I have trouble calling it a review), I can not currently recommend CDF Ghostship. The game seems like it will be really cool when some more work is put into it, but at the moment there are things that make it too frustrating for me.

Shooting

Shooting can be painful.

  • Guns that do not reload but recharge instead are nice, but there is no clear indication of this which can definitely be a problem in battle.
  • Hitting what you shoot at is often difficult because the enemy hit boxes are too small or oddly shaped, and the guns are horribly inaccurate.
  • The UI is not well designed (yet?) and does not indicate well your reserves of ammo.

Enemies

  • Having a few enemies be annoying is fine, but when the majority of your enemies are based around being annoying you have a problem.
  • Tiny enemies with tiny hit boxes moving around fast with inaccurate weapons = This is dumb, I'll play another game.

UI

I know, it is Early Access. I get that. I'm a game developer, I know what it is like. That said, I'm also a gamer.

  • I would not recommend you go into the inventory screen ("I" button). The mouse moves so fast I can hardly find it and it almost always causes the game to do some of the weirdest glitching I've ever seen.
  • The UI does not well indicate the amount of information you need. This was mentioned above as well.

Finally...

Any other problem I could mention with it is no big deal to me at the moment so I will leave it at that. The bottom line here is that it is playable, but if you are short on cash I would wait.

One other thing to note is that while the game does support side by side 3D (Oculus Rift), the UI is NOT built for it and the guns float right in front of your face not only making you uncomfortable but also blocking much of your vision. It is not playable with the Rift.

The game runs very well, has many upgrades to earn with smooth progression. This is more polished than a lot of the "finished" games I have played lately by far.

Ok, first off this game isn't perfect. Isn't perfect for a $60 game I mean. Some people will complain about anything. This game is fantastic. It's like a little Borderlands and the maps are HUGE. Tons of gameplay here for $10.

At the moment of writing this the game does not properly support all TV resolutions. Get some overscan on my computer but not a big deal. That's actually why I'm here writing a review; I had to restart the game to get it windowed. Other than that I have no complaints.

To sum this game up I would have to say, "Borderlands. Steamworld Dig. Contra. Terraria."
