I am into colony sims and I didnt like it. I have played for a lot longer than what the Steam time says. The "detailed world and just being a cog in the machine" hype is all in text in the logs. If you arent gonna read you are missing half the game. The only thing going for the game is water physics and Z-axis. This is exactly the same as the free ascii version but with pretty tileset. No sound effects, animations or anything, Its basically a stopmotion. Zero flexibility on what you play as. You are forever Dwarfs living in a fort.

Play Rimworld if you want a polished game. At least it doesnt pretend that its an intricate simulation. Plus you can play as anything you like. You can do a Dwarf Fortress-esq medieval colony or a Hitlerite transhumanist cult where being amputated is honorable. 20 years is more than enough to do basic animations and sounds. But its still same game being carried by the pretence of detailed simulation and Z-axis. How does a long ass essay in the logs mean anything if its just text and ultimately inconsequential to my run? And the UI has no excuse to be this bad. Ive gotten shovelware games that have better UI.

This game will be 'Overwhelmingly Positive' if you have been following/playing this game since the ascii days (and for some reason refuse to try other games). Terrible if your first impression is the current state.

Theres a reason why this game only has average of 1k players online while Rimworld has 30k.

edit: Keep coping lmfao. Obviously the game is going to be better than what it was like a decade ago. I am basing my review/hate off of what the game is like in comparison to other colony sims in 2024. This game is a text based adventure with flickering, static sprites for representation. Rimworld for example, uses text to supplement the visual image instead. Its entire popularity isnt carried by "in depth lore". Being a passion project doesnt mean my bar of expectations should be at the floor. I am ultimately purchasing a product with my money so I expect the product to be good.

Either ways, bad game, good text based adventure with sprites for visuals. Felt like a borderline scam from all that hype.

Requiring a large swath of your target audience to upgrade parts of their PC just to get one game playable is not the way to go.

boring. I want my money back. and needs 3rd party patches for a smooth experience

got bored after a while but its fun if you are into these types of games

bugs on the first mission already. not a good first impression. its also so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ tedious. you can do everything in the world but if you miss a single civilian you cannot finish the mission.

Im not a huge fan of RTS games but I like the art style and the game is rather simple. I wish the AI was better though. In the mission "Downstream" ships constantly get stuck on the sides. Seems like they can only travel vertically and horizontally. But not a combination of both.
