Very satisfying, rewarding core gameplay. Steep learning curve is the price for a full-fat mechlab and combat system with no dumbing down of rule systems. Graphics are a little dated, but animations and sounds are on point.

As a player since 2012, developer progress is slow but steady, lots of incremental improvements and new content. Perfectly viable for free players, no material advantage for paid content, only early access and cosmetics. Try it out - definitely check out some tutorials and newbie guides to get a head start

Spend your first 25 games playing in trial mechs, and read some newbie guides and build recommendations at sites like metamechs before you start spending those C-bills in game. Make sure to hop on a teamspeak server to play with some other people for the best experience

Great nostalgia trip/time sink for 40k afficionados and tabletop fans. Lack of variety of enemies is a little disappointing, but the missions are varied enough that the game remains challenging and interesting, with some very intense scrapes if you push for some of the achievements.

Its a little disappointing that you only get to use terminators, as they start to feel very plain, especially against the very scary genestealers - you almost forget what killing machines they actually are in the broader 40k conext. I'd love for Full Control to get a chance to remake space crusade, so that we could use a wider variety of units - scouts and space marines as well as terminators against the likes of the orks, eldar and chaos as well.

I hope there is a long tail of content for this game, more campaigns and hopefully a map editor and painter tools for custom campaigns. Space Hulk is a strong base to start from, and I'm sure there are plenty of diehard fans out there willing to fork out for more adventures with the emperor's finest.

7/10, solid.
