When I was in Ramadi, we had all types of engagements to include: clearing houses, patrolling urban and sub-urban streets, and rural farm lands. Most, and by most I mean the grand majority of all firefights happened within 75 yards. Even in the rural areas. And we were using iron sights. I didn’t get an ACOG until halfway through my deployment. Most people saying that they need magnification probably cannot even calculate the bullet drop of a 5.56 round at 600 yards in the first place. I’ll trust my ability to be able to properly move through urban environments and close-with on a person than their ability to try and take a long shot at me. Situational awareness and movement is more important than optics.
