halo 4 is a generic scifi shooter 343 made then remembered they are taking over microsoft's flagship ip and need to add some things to make it seem remotely "halo"

the writing is like d2 which is very bad as it revolves around having some random mcguffin which is "evil because it is bad" and the story is just "ummm the didact is bad because he is le bad and cortana has dementia or something idk also idk why ur suit is upgraded and why we need to kill the didact or why the covenant are back" and now the game has memorable one liners like "I am ordering you... TO SURRENDER THAT AI"
343 does attempt to explain the story in a lore dump cutscene but it's so bad it's forgettable

the gameplay is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ♥♥♥♥ with ammo running out constantly with 75% of your time being spent with the ♥♥♥♥♥♥ promethean guns (the boltshot is ok i like that one only for the charge shot because u can combo knights) with bullet sponge enemies and knights which are hardly distinct from one another meaning you're better off remembering the gun noises to work out which knight it is.

the variety in vehicle sequences is nice but feels soulless due to 343 not explaining the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ story as to why we need to stop some dude from using the xbox 360 logo with a red ring of death.

halo 4 has quick time events which has SAVED the series. now you can kill the big bad boss by pressing f to plant a grenade (or rt to fire machine gun) in a glorified cutscene to end the game!!!

the sound design is horrible with energy weapons sound like water guns, the opening climbing section has ear-splitting bangs for some reason and the music is generic and forgettable, like the rest of halo 4.

tldr: slop

a true gem that is undoubtedly worth it even at full price but it goes for so cheap now that its just too good for money on sale.

skip halo 4 and you have 5 good games at less than £2 a game (on sale).

(if you're playing halo 4 then install a mod to make it bearable)

btw end of game says "part 2 coming soon" despite steam store not saying so and if its unfinished, why isn't it in early access? (nvm bros part 2 is another game so cool, what should be an update for this unfinished slop is paid so cool thank you bros) have we devolved past releasing unfinished indie games and using early access as an excuse and instead releasing "ironic" piles of ♥♥♥♥?

despite it being clearly rushed, i really enjoyed it as there were times i would complete a mission or two and it would feel like only 10 minutes had passed yet in reality it was over an hour, halo 3 wraps up the story well. I personally found the gunplay to be better here than in CE. halo bungie can break my benjamin.

the anniversary graphics are really well done, i just personally dislike alot of the sounds used (such as the ghost firing and the energy sword) and prefer the original. i would recommend playing with the original graphics then switching to anniversary graphics for cutscenes as they are really well done.

the mp is probably the best in the series, the physics is incredible, the feeling when you brute shot yourself into the stratosphere and hit some 360 noscope mid air with a sniper is unmatched
