Now I will say this isn't quite as good as the first (3 ep vs 5 means less build up) but it is still definetly worth your time.

The way it has people who do bad at the start and as the story unfolds, you understand where they are coming from is fantastic. How the game constantly questions your morality. It does a great job of having characters with nuance rather than "this person good, this person bad". The final choice is split almost 50/50 with the players! Recommended for sure with a bumpin' sound track that reminds me of teenage angst.

This game popped my FF cherry and I gotta say, I understand the acclaim.

I'm still a noob to JRPGs and have only played a handful but, this is the best turn based battle system I've played. Buffs and Debuffs are actually important. The enemies contstanly have different weaknesses so you feel like you get to take your whole party for a spin because they are all important in different senarios. Also environmental things to interact with like telling the ship driver to pull in or away for different effects. This game didn't feel grindy to me either. There were sometimes I lingered in locations getting exp but, not because I felt like I had to or I wouldn't be able to defeat the next boss. The boss battles were amazing with different stages and attacks to overcome. I felt like when I lost I just had to adjust my strategy and not because I was a low level.

The story was pretty much what I wanted. Something so out there that game designers from the west wouldn't think to write about it. The world building was also really interesting in cutscenes and you could tell the detail they put into the design of the world (even though you don't get to explore as much as I would like). The characters were pretty great too. I didn't care for Kimimari because he barely said anything (at least he wasn't offensively annoying) but I liked the other main characters for sure.

I appricated the break from battles with mini games but I felt they were kinda weak. Blitzball probably had potential and I know people liked it but I couldn't get into it. Sphere thing was nice but too complicated for me at times and I had to look up a guide (I liked the tetris one though!). Chocobo races and stuff weren't too great either.

Graphics are also pretty dated. The remastered textures are great and even the designs of the main characters are good considering this game came out in 2001 but NPCs have inverted faces and they just look like crappy against the main cast. Also the animations can't be that expressive. You just notice these things is all but it doesn't take away from the main experience.

This game has me hungry for my Final Fantasy and I think it is a great starting point.

For the time I spent I think it was worth it. Interesting look at an online relationship between college students. Again short but pretty sweet.
