Iam a person who'd likely play L4D2 with 3rd Person mode.
Here my config:
cam_idealpitch 0;cam_idealyaw 0;cam_collision 1;cam_ideallag 0;c_thirdpersonshoulderdist 40;c_thirdpersonshoulderaimdist 720;c_thirdpersonshoulderoffset 20;c_thirdpersonshoulderheight 3;c_thirdpersonshouldersnapto 1 (This only work at L4D1);bind "[Any key you want]" "thirdpersonshoulder; cam_idealdist 30";
(First one toggles third person mode. Second sets the distance between the camera and the character. You have to bind it too because it resets every time you toggle third person on and off. Feel free to try different values.)
