(This is my second review, now with Ashes of Malmouth and Forgotten Gods expansions.)

Grim Dawn is a dark and depressing game. It has a really nice story, as well, although it's never told directly and requires you to take your time and read the lore notes you find along the way. The horrors told through these lore notes become an apparent reality once you reach the end of the Ashes of Malmouth expansion. That Fleshworks level... damn. You have to see that for yourself.

On a side note, I think most will agree that the buildings and paths in Malmouth City were somewhat annoying to traverse. The overall atmosphere there was phenomenal though. Props to the developers for designing and creating such a visually amazing environment. And another props to the composers of the track "Lonely Moon", which plays in the Malmouth Sewers hideout. Too bad, you don't get to stay there much.

Forgotten Gods expansion picks you up from the depressing world of Cairn and places you in a more vibrant world with cool new enemies and monsters. I get a lot of Immortal Throne (Titan Quest expansion) vibes while playing the Forgotten Gods expansion. Immortal Throne had beautiful otherworldly levels, which is what we also see here in Forgotten Gods. Immortal Throne introduced cool new enemies, like Machae and Gigantes; we have Animated Watchers and Korvaak Champions in Forgotten Gods. The final boss fight was just as epic as it was in Immortal Throne, as well. It's no surprise that the former developers of Titan Quest has shown their experience and talent here once again.

Grim Dawn (with its expansions) is one of the best hack & slash & loot games ever made. It's a theory-crafter's dream, where you can build any character the way you want and play and beat the game your way. The only possible downside is, it's a bit slow-paced and more focused on single player, so if you're looking for something more fast-paced or more multiplayer-focused, it might not be your cup of tea.
