Generally, I like the Kingdom Hearts series. I wish I could play a remastered 358/2 days, instead of watching a movie, though.
Also this is an issue with the original version of Birth By Sleep; Make sure you don't save over your other characters save files or you will not have a good time.

This is a game you play if you have rich friends or money to throw away. New items, sets, and classes are locked behind paywall after paywall after paywall. "DLC" (It's not DLC because you download it as it comes out, it's just paywalled content.) purchases can become expensive quickly. The proposed workaround for ESO is their Subscription Plan - ESO+. It promises to give you access to all zones - which is misleading. The current year's content does not count, and to access it within the same year still requires a purchase of around 40-60 dollars. Most of these new things shake the meta in unbelievable ways, there's no way for someone who bought the standard edition to keep up - in game players call people who can only access this content "f2ps". You know, "free to plays" - and are often belittled within game chats when they simply can't afford Zenimax's wild cash scheme. Even Imperials - One of the 10 classic playable races of the series - are locked behind money.

The best cosmetics are not guaranteed, as you have to roll a lootbox known as a "Crown Crate" to get them, and chances tend to be abysmally low on the better items. The only guaranteed way to get these cosmetics are through "Endeavors" -Daily and Weekly challenges that reward you with a minuscule amount of points. You might get so little that by the time you end up being able to purchase the rarest items you may want, the next set of crates is here.

Their newest trick to get you to buy Crowns (their microtransaction currency) is by adding purchase bonuses with Crown Crate bundles. The bundles themselves cost 8,000 crowns. You cannot directly buy 8,000 crowns on the Steam page. The easiest way is to buy the $99.99 bundle for 14,000 crowns, while the cheaper option is to buy the $39.99 and $25.99 bundles for around $65 in total, adding up to 8,500 crowns. You could buy a triple a studio game near that price.

The game is also highly unoptimized. - over 130 GB when fans of Skyrim and Oblivion might be expecting something closer to the size of those games may find themselves frantically having to delete much of their library from their computers in order to enjoy this bloatware cashgrab.

I come back to this game every now and again. I enjoy the stories told within it. I enjoy the world built around the characters. Sheogorath is in this game as an antagonist in one of the standard edition campaigns - I love that. The Second Era was mostly unexplored before this game. The character creator here is the best in the entire series. But I cannot in good faith recommend this game to anyone I know. It would be like telling your friend to take a loan from a bank, they are going to end up in debt.

4/11/25 CST addendum: the newest update to this game adds a new 80 dollar way to get all the previous chapters. i don't have 80 dollars (disabled) and if these are what they've previously said about chapter dlc being different from zone, dungeon, and other dlc, then this is not worth the money.

A brilliant platformer/puzzle game inspired by Journey to the West. The graphics are stunning as well, and the game also has a small sense of humor.

I wish I could describe how much I want other MMOs to follow the monetization plan of Warframe. This is not a review of its excellent story, gameplay, graphics, customization, innovation, or openness with the player base - those have been done to death.

Digital Extremes released a free game that does not require you to buy anything to progress. That game is this game. Warframe. Most things that you could buy with a premium currency, you can earn in game - exclusive cosmetics aside. Even the most powerful assets to your arsenal are free. The things that you can only buy are all cosmetic. There are not "loot boxes" or "crown crates" or whatever to be seen in Warframe. And that's only half-true. Through trading, you can get enough platinum (premium currency) to get everything that is buyable for platinum.

The exceptions are Prime Cosmetics and Tennogen.
The Prime Cosmetics (Prime Accessories) are expensive right out of the box - rightly so. One of the few things you can't earn that is made by the company behind the game. It only goes to support them and earn you a shiny new suit, skin, weapon dangle, or other fun things, like orbiter decorations or dances. After the Prime Warframe they are associated with is gone, the accessories are gone for a while. This causes a little bit of FOMO early on, until the Prime Warframe gets vaulted and then brought back in prime Resurgence. All of their accessories come back at a markedly cheaper price than when they first released.

Tennogen is Workshop content. Yes, Workshop content. People who play the game and have experience with certain aspects of design can add items into the game. These items directly cost money - No premium currency in between. (except on console, which is why your tennogen items won't carry over onto console with account linking, like, say you wanted to carry your save from Steam to the Nintendo Switch. Most everything would be there except your tennogen skins, and vice-versa.) The Steam Creators even get paid for their work!

Digital Extremes also often raises funds for charities through in-game purchases. These aspects of the game are some of the reasons I stick around, even if a rotten patch goes through. I trust this company's monetization policy. Other MMOs could learn a thing or two from Warframe. (just got back from playing ESO. augh. now if only there were a high fantasy version of warframe...)
