Did you consider downloading DC Universe Online? It's free-to-play (though you do get some perks for paying). If you can run L4D it should run on your laptop (you'll have to adjust the graphics, though--I had to lower them). It is similar in feel to City of Heroes, but without the recycling of mission settings--everyplace you go is definitely different. It has really fun Alerts (only need 4 people to play them), really fun PvP Legends fights (you start off playing Robin, but can buy Batman in the Marketplace for about $5--also only need 2-4 players per side for these fights--capture the flag, hold points, etc.). You level up pretty fast--they actually want players to hit 30 without a some super-long grind. I think you would like this game.
