One of the best RE games to date, with a good story and gameplay that doesn't become too over the top, unlike later games in the series. It has the perfect mix of survival horror and action, but the main difference is that you never feel as though you are almost out of supplies and will likely have enough to keep going if you manage your resources wisely. One of my main issues with the game is the inclusion of many quick time events throughout the main story, and whilst this can be a good change of pace, it can also be frustrating if you aren't expecting them, as this results in instant death every time. Fortunately, the save system in this game is much more forgiving than earlier games, with most new areas saving your progress. This would probably take away from the immersion in the earlier games, but here it works well because you are constantly moving from area to area (aside from when you are in the castle). Overall, it is a great action game for the series that would go on to completely change the direction taken in every future entry (for better or worse).
