Having played since its launch, this game has gone through some serious growth spurts, and in turn growing pains. What it is now, is exactly what I wanted it to be at start, and its only gonna get better.

It didn't have what people were looking for coming from Vermintide, but that was ok, it was well built, and seemed to have a good team working normal hours to keep it smooth and update things in the backend. It took its time unlocking things we now see commonplace like crafting or upgrading equipment, but at this point with the Traitors Curse being revealed for their anniversary, this is a game that has grown into something that fits the niche then even i thought it would.

it has challenge, it has variety in builds, in weapons [for some classes], and with friends is something you can either play for fun, or go get sweaty doing the new Auric Level missions that have 5 mutators and run at level 5/5 difficulty. The payout is worth it, but is your build ready?

As it stands, its not perfect, and no game truly is, but it is what I enjoy and believe others will as it continues to sharpen its teeth and bite into the amount of content and updates they can do now that after a year this massive amount of turnaround in development has seen so many improvements, it shows that Darktide is here to stay.

As a final note for *gaming parents*, if you want to do a horde shooter with friends, and you have adult 'responsibilities' outside of your gaming time, this is a good pick. The missions at lvl3 [Malice] run about 20 minutes each, give or take 2-3 depending on the team and modifiers. This makes it easy for my team, which is all gamer dads myself included, can all plan our gaming sessions to make sure we get our purging in, while still being on time to work with our kids or go to bed at a responsible hour.

TL:DR, 8.5/10, good recall to FEAR, DOOM, and Timesplitters with a sprinkle of SCP, Creepypasta references, and good ol fashioned mayhem.

This game caught me by surprise in every chapter, starting from the first mission to every story mission afterwards. Though the fighting got tedious at some points, the parts where it was you and the environment, that was when your senses peaked the fear and terror began to set it.

Great replayability, good gun play, good story that kept you guessing, and the atmosphere pulls you in and keeps you. All in all, a solid indie approach to the old school idea of FEAR with a really solid landing and execution.

If you ever liked FEAR or its counterparts, you wont be disappointed with Trepang, it may be on the shorter side if you go fast, but it will keep you hooked till its over.

Grab it by itself, or on sale, and take the 7[ish] hours to do the main story on Normal/Hard. Up the difficulty for a serious challenge, unlock all the cheats, play the sandbox, and look for everything the levels have to offer, this is just the tip of iceberg, and its worth the dive.
