This game subscribes to many game-design principles I hold dear; simple yet satisfying gameplay, challenging, but not requiring a million attempts, predictable enemy patterns, fun to explore, but not outstaying its welcome, intuitive controls that do not require every single button on your gamepad. The pixel art is gorgeous and consistent, the music is pure elegance and the overall atmosphere is enchanting. I have a few complaints, but they have to do with Metroidvanias as a genre and are not specific to this particular one. As far as Metroidvanias go, this is probably my favourite so far.

Gorgeous art and rewarding gameplay inspired before the boring hand-holding era of gaming. Excellent platforming and pacing, a high recommendation from me

I love this! Finally a beat-em-up that dares to have old-school gaming sessions. You lose, it's game over and start over. You actually care about your health, your lives and the particular gaming session, as opposed to the typical modern snooze fest.
It doesn't hurt that the pixelated art and animations are top-notch. It's still a little on the easy side. I am playing in "hard" mode and already reached the final stage on my 4th go, But regardless, lots of fun!

Well done to the developers, easy recommendation from me!

The Amiga version was a masterpiece. The versions included here were not. It's a crime the home computer versions are not included. An Amiga version with two-button support (no "axis up" to jump like in the original) would easily be the definitive way to play this gem.

The cutscenes were boring, kept skipping, but the presentation is great and the gameplay pretty good.

What are you people doing? Go buy this game! it's very very good, unless you are a wimp who only wants to win and can't handle the learning process of losing! It's got beautiful pixel animation a great combat system and challenging gameplay. Seeing this on a cheap bundle breaks my heart!

Looks nice, but a a chore to play. Found myself drifting away while looking at the beautiful particle explosions. Some people are constantly talking through COM while you fight, their delivery as if they are having a chat at the coffee shop. Forgettable soundtrack too. Worst of all, screen filled with bullets and explosions, but no worries, no real penalty if you die = no stakes = complete boredom.
