A stunning visual update to one of the finest platformers of the 32-bit era. While veterans who know the original trilogy like the palm of their hands will have a hard time adapting to the new jumping physics and hitboxes at first, once you get used to it the game is a real blast that takes you back to your childhood. Let's hope that its success leads to the release of a brand new fourth entry to the series.

An addictive mixture of Sonic, Kirby and a little bit of Megaman X thrown into the mix that captures the vibe of the 16-bit era platformers. Its foundation as a Sonic fangame cannot be hidden, as some amateurish level and sprite design can be seen in some places.

Overall, though, it's a solid package that it's heavily recommended if you enjoy any of the series the title draws inspiration from, or just action-packed 2D platformers in general. However, do not expect the polish of an AAA game by any means.

Although it lacks some of the possibilities that its predecessors offered (such as the usage of several weapons and sub-weapons, more sand powers, more unique situations and setpieces...) the title, overall, manages to capture the essence of the "sands of time" trilogy. It falls a little bit short in the variety department, offering very little unlockables and secret items to search for. Another drawback would be the repetitiveness that the puzzles start to show by the end of the game (the water freezing mechanic is done to death, for instance).

However, it is recommended if you enjoyed the previous titles in the series and left you wanting for more.

Best Sonic game of all time. With the amount of passion and care put into it, it even surpasses the Mega Drive games.
