I tried really hard to like this game. I just can't. It's so so boring. I'm a big dragon age/mass effect/bioware fan and enjoyed every other game in the series. I also watched Mortismal's review on youtube and place a lot of stock in his reviews. The fact he said this game was a potential GOTY is shocking to me having put 10 hours in. This game just doesn't have any compelling narrative, gameplay, characters, or locations to get you invested in the game within the first few hours.

The combat, which many here are praising, is incredibly dull. I don't know how anyone is praising it. It's a slog to whittle down enemy health, enemies that don't really pose any threat to you, or do anything interesting, so it's just boring. The story itself, the start is full of boring tropes, the initial companions are dull, one of which is voiced by an actress who sounds more bored than me. I have no idea how she got the job, or was kept in the job when every line delivery, not matter what happens is flat.

In terms of the actual gameplay it's very simple, you get a quest, go to a very linear map, very pretty sure, but linear, fight enemies in stale boring combat where you left click a lot, spam space to dodge, pop off some abilities which look flashy but beyond that aren't great. Once you do that you have to do some incredibly boring and tedious puzzles, which are there purely to pad the game and are so simple they make you roll your eyes each time as if to say 'are you really going to make me do this?' because there's nothing interesting about them, they're there purely to waste your time and pad the game. It's rare that I feel actually insulted by a game but the puzzles are just a complete disrespect of my time. Similar to how I feel about the combat. There are some side areas to explore within the level, but they're not worth it, you get some boring resources, occasionally a bit of gear but none of it is actually interesting. They took a lot of inspiration from games like God of War, and sadly this is just a very poor mans version of that game in terms of combat/exploration/character/advancement and gear.

If the story/companions were better, then maybe I would understand and push through, sadly they're incredibly dull especially compared to the vibrant characters you had in previous Dragon Age and Mass Effect games. Even God of War had a better story, and characters with more interesting things to say on your journey, rather than banal comments on how to solve a puzzle a 4 year old could solve. Heck if the game reflected my choices from previous games, then maybe I'd even buy in a bit more, but it actively avoids them.

I've never nodded off playing a game before, but I have several times trying to play this. It literally sucks the soul out of me and I have only forced myself to 10 hours to try and see some redeeming qualities after the decent reviews on steam but I really don't understand how anyone can play this. I haven't given a game so many chances before. I would really implore anyone who enjoyed Veilguard to play something like GoW and realise how many shortcomings this game has. I can't believe anyone has played top quality games and can play Veilguard and enjoy it. There really is nothing to enjoy here.

This game is a very good game. The developers have made some misteps since release but they have been open to listening to the community. They care a lot about the game and the value for money is great.

I'm not sure I can recommend this game. I played the initial release version, it was okay, not great, not bad but ok by Paradox's standards. It felt like the bare bones of a game which I expected them to build on. Upon returning with the latest update, I don't know what to say...I think whoever is in charge of the UI must be new to the industry or grand strategy games, or just really loves the colour red.

One of the good points of the initial release was the simplicity of the UI and it was easy on the eye. Now I find it much more difficult to navigate and just ugly. I normally don't give two ♥♥♥♥♥ about UI but in a game like this it's an essential part of how you enjoy the game everything is done through the UI with very little on the map. The fact there's no option to change it back to the original design baffles me, there was literally nothing wrong with the way it was originally presented - it was actually very very good. What we have now looks like what someone in kindergarten would create when they think of Rome lots of RED RED RED GOLD AND MARBLE.

It just baffles me how someone could get this so wrong, and then push it to release. I can't comment on the new mechanics introduced - I assume they're better than the base game and I'm sure it's a more enjoyable game if you can get past the horrible UI but if I'm having to struggle through that to enjoy the game, then the game itself becomes unenjoyable. I hope they change this and I will change my review accordingly (if I enjoy the new mechanics).

Recent Patches (not the 2.0 patch but the 2.0.1 and 2.0.2 patch have made the game completely unplayable for me. Constant crashing.
