Dwarf Fortress, in all of it's glory, only not impossibly hidden behind arcane key combinations? Yes please!

Seriously though, everything about DF is an amazing game. It is one of the best simulation games, one of the best rougelikes, one of the best >games< since we've been putting text on consoles.

I really want to like this game, but every time I try to play it by myself I find myself getting lost running around the map looking for the teleporter - every game. I can't progress if the progression is hidden and hard to notice, and I waste forever rolling around areas without loot - collecting money that can't be spent because there is no more loot, meanwhile swearing I've been everywhere on the map at least 3 times and 15 minutes have passed in a single level.

The systems are great, the gameplay is fun, and when I can actually manage to play a loop or two, I really love the game, but when playing solo, I just ragequit from lack of ability to progress, not from a skill cap, but literally a "hidden objective" quest.

How hard would it be to just auto highlight the porter if you get close enough to it and keep it highlighted? How hard to have it show itself after you've been hunting for it for 10+ minutes? It seems there are some "tricks" to seeing it, learning about the little fireflies etc, but even knowing all that - with a photographic memory that can draw a map of almost any town I've ever visited in most video games, but I can't find these damn teleporters.

Game is great if you play with people who can find the exits...

I wish it were possible to rate this both positive and negative, because I do enjoy playing it multiplayer, but when the MAIN OBJECTIVE HIDES FROM ME I WANT TO THROW THINGS

So, I happen to know the person who wrote it as a disclaimer, but this is the throwback 80x25 rouge game I always wanted to get into, never knew existed, and yet has been here most of my adult life.

I'm barely into this game, and already the setting, narration, and a button that makes you hum along with the soundtrack have already turned this into one of my favorite steam games!
