Writing this review after beating campaign and making several new characters to play with friends who picked up this game so we would all start fresh. After beating the final boss and 50 hours of gameplay, I can whole heartedly say this is an improvement on the first game in almost every single way. This game oozes atmosphere, if you like gothic horror; there's a Bloodborne-esque inspired world with its own spin. Sci-fi is your go to? They also got you covered there as well, desolate, barren in some areas, while feeling claustrophobic in the ships. More of a fantasy person with the outdoors in mind? Also in this game and some few more surprises.

Boss fights are really well done, it's captivating and challenging at the same time. If you find the game to be too easy, start on the harder difficulties. I haven't found a game so addicting as Remnant 1 and now Remnant 2. They wear their inspirations on their sleeves when it comes to games like Soulsborne series, but the developers Gunfire Games definitely add their own touches to their own game which makes it a breath of fresh air. The secrets in this game is crazy, one google search can send you down a rabbit hole on what this game can hold for the uninitiated. Be warned. You will be searching every nook and cranny and questioning the most basic of items you pick up if it's holding a secret to lead to another quest.

I plan to dive into collecting everything after just completing the final boss fight (which was really good, one of the best I've played in any game. Very hectic, but satisfying.) Planning to play this game solo? No problem, it feels great and you just absorb that atmosphere that much more. But also want some company with you? Game supports up to 3 players and it's a blast to play especially with friends. I've seen some complaints about the new trait cap system they have implemented into the game, but the developers themselves have pointed out that they are still looking into it and seeing what they can do and have future plans in DLC regarding this issue.

All I can say is, if you were a fan on the first game, or just even looking for a fun looter shooter with atmosphere. Get this game now, you will not regret it. It's contender for Game of The Year for me. Thanks for reading my review and have a great day!

I'm 10 hours into the game and it's better than the reviews I've watched on YouTube. Graphics are good and whoever says it's last gen is smokin' crack. Story is intriguing and the best tip I can give is to do the challenges to unlock your momentum abilities and etc. Gear system seems pretty cool so far with elemental build or crit so far. I'll update this review after I beat this game.

1/8/23 update:

Finally had the time to finish the story mode with my friend 2 days ago. It was an interesting game, that's for sure. Pros is the side stories as they contain: Harley Quinn, Clayface, and Mr. Freeze. These side missions involving these characters were very good and felt like it was main story capable levels of content/cut scenes. While the main story, was just alright for me, don't want to spoil any of that. Fighting mechanics can get tiring pretty fast if you don't like repetitive, but I was fine with it and trying different builds like I mention above was fun. Atmosphere is good in the game, and voice acting is good as well.

But let's move to the cons of this game in my opinion. Investigations to progress further into the story mode was freakin terrible. Having to interrogate enemies was not fun as it introduces a way to slow down the game for no reason. We were having a blast doing the side stories, but once we hit the wall of "interrogate (x) of enemies of this faction." The fun we were experiencing drastically dropped and we stopped playing the game for a few days until we picked it up again when we both had free time. Patrolling the city itself is just not as enticing as they hope it to be as using the flying mechanics can be slow, and fast travelling always uses the same drop animation which can be tiring to see after the 30th time. But the worst offender is the bike in the game! It just felt slow, which it should be viscerally fast. If they were to tweak the speed of the bike and flying mechanics by 1.5x or even 2x. I feel like this would greatly improve the feel and want of exploring Gotham City.

This is just thoughts I've had since completing the game. We were doing some of the late game content which is the new free DLC; Heroic Assault, that they added recently and it's just more fighting with the same levels, maybe in reverse, but if you like the fighting in this game. I can see it being a great time by yourself or with friends. But I really don't see the longevity of this mode and to keep you in the game long term, maybe a couple days? I am going to do the other characters as I only did Nightwing, and my buddy played as Batgirl. But will probably update this review one last time after I'm completely finished with it.

As of completing the story mode with maxing 1 character only and only playing that 1 character and doing 8 levels of the Heroic Assault. I would recommend this game if you're a fan of Batman only when it's on sale as of right now. This recommendation may change if they introduce more content or if it changes once you start playing other characters. Thank you for reading if you do, and sorry this was long. 1/15/2023 update:

Playing New Game+ as Red Hood and single player since my friend doesn't want to play again. It is much more enjoyable single player this time around as I'm getting more absorbed into the environment and paying attention to lore, rather than just speeding to the next mission/fights. I'm taking it slower and playing it as a stealth game, and honestly that just gives it the Batman vibes more to me. My previous update I would rate higher due to my enjoyment now. I would highly suggest people to try all 4 characters to find someone that meshes well with what you personally prefer. I thought I liked Nightwing's combat, but after trying Red Hood, I definitely prefer him. But I am planning to beat story mode on each character individually. Also I highly advise mods to fix the traversal issues I've stated above, makes traversing Gotham City a treat when it's at a higher speed. Story mode also gets interesting when you're actually engrossed in it and not talking over dialogue or making jokes with friends over discord.

Fun game. I really liked the puzzles probably in the first 60% of the game. Puzzles nearing the end, I did not enjoy at all compared to the first half. Would still recommend this game though, fun with a friend for sure. Definitely tests your intellect, but I really do think the later puzzles near the end weren't as fun as the earlier ones.

This game is genuinely fun when you don't interact with the toxic part of the community, there are nice people who realize this is just a game and is just trying to have fun. As long as you're not an ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ in terms of your game play to others, it is a good time and better with friends.

Played the living hell out of this game for the XBOX360 back in the days. Got it recently to play with my cousin. We are having a blast with this game, although the annoying thing about Games for Windows Live issue. You need to google to get the solution to get this game running and to play online. But after that, smooth sailing. Game holds up very well, graphics look great if able to max out. Game play is still top notch and the story doesn't take itself too seriously. Fun game with very slight horror, very fun via co-op.

Oh man, I picked this up from the Humble Bundle 2K Edition and I'm so glad I did. I mainly wanted to get The Bureau: XCOM Declassified to try it out and remembered that I loved The Darkness while playing it on console back in the days. Started playing it and fell in love with the series again. Sure, the new art style compliments the new upbeat game play, but I do gotta say that I miss those graphics in the first one. It just fits more with the game in my own opinion, but with what The Darkness 2 has done for me is bring out that need to keep playing the game till I finish and try to recommend my friends to get just to experience the game itself. While Vendetta (Co-Op Online mode) was a big let down compared to how cool the trailers and reviews on YouTube were making it out to be. I am still 3 hours into the campaign and I just want to keep coming back to just complete the game in one day. I haven't had that kind of feeling for a game on PC in a while or just in general whether it be PS3, XB360, PS4, XB1, or WiiU.

tl;dr great game, I highly recommend anyone fans of the first one to pick it up as the story continues right off from the first one. Watch a video or two on the first The Darkness to take a trip down nostalgia road before playing this one. Even if you haven't played the first one, the gameplay is great! Highly recommend for fans of something different/fps.
