The idea of HD2 didn't appeal to me. Looking at gameplay videos, it looked like just another run-of-the-mill squad shooter with PvE. I likened it to Left 4 Dead 2 and safely avoided the hype train.

Then someone gifted it to me. So, I played it with my friend and his buddy feeling guilty that I was gonna drop the game after about 4 hours of gameplay. But I was so wrong.

The realistic elements that I first took notice of were the aiming/reticle drag system, reloads that discard ammo, and fatigue. After the earlier difficulties, these things combined with strategem cooldowns, a mission timer, friendly fire, community-wide teamwork, communication, environmental hazards, and the constant barrage of how-the-hell-are-we-going-to-make-it-through-this encounters makes it feel totally chaotic - as if I'm really in a warzone.

The Super Earth narrative is really fun to learn into too.
Highly recommend if you've got some friends to play with; even the pubs I've run with have largely been rewarding experiences.

This movement-based shooter provides an assortment of items that lends itself to fast-paced, strategic play where cooperation, decision-making, and headshots matter.

The destructible environment is just icing on the cake.

After years of playing Warcraft 3 and StarCraft 2, I finally gave this a shot. It's been a really great campaign experience. I feel like I'm learning history the way it was meant to be learned.

If you already know that you enjoy the RTS genre, go ahead and pick this up. If you're not sure that you like RTS games, it's still a safe bet.

I enjoyed playing this game despite its frustrating lack of basic QOL features that come standard with every single TD game.

There are no hotkeys for selecting towers or upgrades. You can't determine the range of a tower - which is variable depending on its placement - until after it's been placed. These things, combined with unfixed UI bugs that were revealed within minutes of gameplay and interface clunkiness, lead me to refund the game.

I look forward to someone else making a rogue-lite tower defense game that doesn't suffer these foibles.

It's a fun and unique gameplay experience. You get to feel the power of inducing terror on your mostly-helpless enemies and do some fun, basic problem-solving.

Flying through vents that accelerate you and shoot you as a flying poo out the other side is fun too.

Easy to learn and hard to master. It scratches the TD itch while adding something new. Even if you didn't play the original map in Warcraft 3, strategy lovers will find a spot in their heart for this game.

I've only put a few hours into this game, but I can already tell it's in my top 10 of all time.

It combines slick, movement-based gameplay - reminiscient of DeadCore, Refunct, DOOM (2016 and Eternal) - with combat that requires a mix of timing, aim, and puzzle-solving (i.e. optimal route to attack enemies). You feel powerful, but not over-powered like in DOOM. The approach taken to upgrades gives the player flexibility to experiment. You can modify your abilities as often as you like without penalty allowing for a broad range of gameplay styles, discovering whichever suits your tastes best. All of this - set in the background of a dystopian, cyberpunk future with a tyrant begging to be overthrown - makes Ghostrunner a quick recommendation to anyone who enjoys the challenge of executing acrobatic assassinations time after time.
