this is the best ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ triple A game I have played in almost 10 years, it actually released as a full game and is a shining beacon of light that I can only hope sets a new status quo for all the other triple A companies to follow

Stop trying to review bomb the game because a gun you liked is a tiny bit worse. It's a good game and really fun with friends, buy it.

this game has got some strange design choices, like instead of little tutorial pop ups they made cinematic action packed montages while some guy explains calmly how awesome the card system is (its so awesome that i forgot it existed while playing), they also decided to put a menu where you choose to play offline or online before you calibrate your screen, brightness, etc and also let you change audio settings only before you get to the main menu.

I chose the campaign and was dropped into this bootcamp/barracks (not to be confused with a tutorial, there was no such thing) and walked around aimlessly for a few minutes before the game gave me a marker to go to, which I did and opened a highlighted locker which let me customize my character which i couldn't because I had no customizations unlocked so I exited, however, there was still a marker implying it wanted me to do something there and so I just kind of gave up. appearently I did something though as more markers popped up namely the gun range.

something i liked about this game before actually even playing it was the amount of gun options and attachments for said guns, there were a lot. animations sucked ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ though, most melee weapons only had two attack animations (pretty sure they were just mirrored) and some, unbelieveably, only had ONE attack animation. guess it was two hard to make anymore.

I would start this sentence with "initial impressions after shooting some zombies", but my final impression of gameplay is exactly the same as my first impression, it sucks. its not fun or even remotely satisfying to shoot zombies when they just die instantly to every shot, and the only zombies with resistance are the special infected, 2 pairs of which im pretty sure had the same gimic as each other, there were two that shot something that slowed at you, and two that pounced on you.

the sound design is miserable, its a complete cluster ♥♥♥♥ of sensory overload, I could barely hear the incoming horde howling noise over gun fire and zombies growling and there was no sound cues of any kind. in addition, the spatial audio sucks, I was on the first floor of a building for like 5 minutes trying to figure how to get to some survivors that were yelling "help!!" with some grunting of a special infected in the same spot. turns out they were 4 stories directly above where i was trying to get to, I can't fathom how they screwed the sound up so badly that someone talking 4 stories above me sounds like they're standing right next to me. oh, and the grunting? yeah that was just playing on repeat, never found the zombie. spawned in a wall maybe? inaccessible room?

by far the best /s part of the game though was the cutscenes. Ill try to describe this the best way I can, but basically after completing the objective and losing two of my teammates (bots), I made it back to the escape vehicle and the cutscene begins.

Now, the other two are suddenly alive, and my character and one of the bot's character, have been replaced by two random completely different characters, and when the cutscene concludes with the escape vehicle arriving back at base camp, the characters that got replaced (my character and a bots) were already at base camp and shooting zombies from a wall.

If you're gonna add cutscenes and let players choose their survivor, at least make it so the characters you animated can be replaced with any other character. It made the already extremely confusing story even more confusing.

the general level design sucks, they give you objectives but no help on how to actually achieve them, I probably spent 15 minutes of my play time just figuring out where to go. some times i had to use a vaulting feature I didn't know existed because there is no tutorial, and other times the way to progress was really far off to the side and hidden from plain sight. and sometimes the objectives were just completely pointless but we needed to do them anyways because uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

the characters or, survivors, are really bland, personalities practically non existant, so bland and boring that this aspect of the game only gets two sentences. I didn't even notice when bots switched characters.

the only thing I can say is good about this game were the unique objectives, place charges in this boat and then get out of their before they explode, seal up the library by building barricades, turn on a jukebox and kill zombies to some badass rock music to distract them from the buses transporting civilians out of the area

overall, its not like i despise the game, its just really boring and sucks and not at all worth 60 bucks or even 30

Waaay too overpriced for its current state, I don't know if the devs read these but I have some suggestions regarding the tutorial. From what I played I enjoyed it, the execution of the mechanics is amazing, the art style is something I absolutely love and the game size wise is really nice, only 500 mb.

The tutorial was stupidly short and barely explained the side mechanics. While it did explain the core point of the game (capturing islands with drones in a RTS style) it didn't explain how to maintain this gameplay. When i was dropped out of the tutorial I was overwhelmed because I knew there was a lot of stuff not explained such as supplies. While there is a menu sort of thing where you can read about things I don't believe it to explain how to actually do anything you're reading, like buying supplies for the warehouse.

I like the game, I think it has a lot of potential. But not for this price, it's a new relatively unknown indie dev studio (or I guess a revival of one) and the first game they release is 40 bucks? I would wait for a price change, 20-30 and it's worth it

Early Access Review
I promised I would change my negative review if I saw the game improve, it's been over a year since i last played and I can confirm that this game is actually pretty good now, there are a few issues that need to be ironed out but its a major improvement, gunplay is really awesome, satisfying to get kills, movement is ehhh jumping feels really bouncy it feels like you're a bouncy ball and crouching camera is extremely low for where your hitbox actually is but I still think the game is pretty fun
