Co-op is amazing. The story is full of heart, even though you know where it's going. It makes you feel like a kid all over again.

It is not often that I find myself sitting down to issue forth a review these days. However, to not bring light to a game I feel might be missed simply because it seems to have been on mobile first would be an injustice. The PC port is polished and can easily be played with mouse and keyboard. While the gameplay is a simple Search & Find formula that is not what the shining star of this game is meant to be. As you explore your get to know about the lore through artifacts you find or wandering spirits. Each day brings a bit more of the dynamic between the two characters and by the end you may come to realize what I did, the writing here is where attention needs to be praised.

As a writer myself I can catch things here and there, but I was taken by surprise by the reveals and the conclusion. Some smart decision making was made to let the writing outshine everything else and it shows. I will leave it all at that, but the soundtrack is a must have once you finish. All-in-All a solid game that should be experienced by anyone loving good writing. Enjoy.

Full Disclosure: My friend bought me the game and urged me to play it.

Undoubtedly, this is a game that came along amidst a vast sea of amazing games in 2017. No Metroidvania fan should miss Hollow Knight. It squarely belong beside Super Metroid and Symphony of the Knight as one of the best of the Genre.

Alright! I love point and clicks. Most harken to the originator point of text adventures where you had to type in your click instead of using a mouse. The reason I bring that point up is the wonderful nod to Zork at the very beginning of the game. That drew me in and then Vladdy arrived who, at first, I was leery of after playing through the Five Nights games. Who knew that an insufferable, constantly insulting, Teddy Bear could make me want to keep going through this game.
The best description I have for this game is if you love Douglas Adams, Terry Pratchett, and Chistopher Moore you may want to pick it up and immerse yourself in the insanity. Definitely, one of my Games of the Year!

Here, again, is proof that I can enjoy other's experiences with a game and then want it enough to experience it myself. It tis a game with everything: art, music, and story. And again, like Journey and Brothers, here is a game without a single bit of verbal of text dialogue. Yet, it conveys atmosphere and leaves the mind wandering to interpret what is going on. Last year I made sure as many people as I could played Undertale. This year (2016) it's Inside.

Ah, here is proof that watching someone else demonstrate and have fun with a title can get people to buy a game. In this case it was Total Biscuit and the Developer of the game (in his Twitch chat.) I once played a little game on Sega Gensis called Warsong and this very game tugged at my nostalgia quotient for it. While the combat between the two games are vastly different there is something that screamed Warsong, but I can't put my finger on it. Regardless, the plot alone can draw you in to this game. Give it a try!

I went into this game almost blind having stopped a video of an LPer (Jesse Cox) so I wouldn't spoil anything within. I'm a gamer that loves art and story in a game. I have always viewed Video Games as an emerging art form. (Seriously, all games are art. It's just a matter of how far you push the artistic form in one direction or another.) The oragami art style was an immediate draw for me as was the storytelling of the narator (anyone who doesn't catch the Bastion nod should be ashamed.) But what really hooked me was the typing mechanic. I'm a writer and having a game like this, typing the words to push the story forward, is almost like asking me to edit the piece a little, add in my flair. Epistory is one of those games (like Journey, Brothers, Undertale) that I urge everyone to play. It blew me away!

Lightning has struck Twice in the kingdom of Retro, at least where I am concerned. Pony Island is an ingenious little game disguised as something it's not. Like Undertale, it should not be missed. If you like puzzles, if your like ponies, if you like lasers... then here is a game for you!

Undertale is my pick for 2015 Game of the Year?

Why? One man, Toby Fox, had a dream and he delivered in overwhelming glory. Story, art, and music are all there! This is a pure example of Games as Art. I dare anyone to lose to any one of the main characters in whaever type of playthrough they are trying to accomplish. The responses upon returning are pure genius and rarely seen in modern Triple A experiences. And the music, I can't escape it. Every fan has a favorite theme from the game and it's not always the same track. For me it's Hopes and Dreams, but don't look at the track list until you finish, please!

Again, Undertale is a modern masterpiece and needs to be played by anyone who loves RPGs or something that truly tugs at the heartstrings.

Final Fantasy IV (formerly II when first on the SNES) is an RPG everyone should play. It established a guideline for how RPGs should be created. In addition, there were nuances that are still used by the industry today like allowing the ingame engine to take control for a cut-scene utilizing thus keeping the player emmersed in the narrative. Lastly, Nobuo Uematsu, the man literary created the theme of music being a must for "any" game.

This is a masterpiece that should never be forgotten. Without its success we might never have been able to play Final Fantasy VI.
