This game is a very good game and had potential to even reach greater heights, but since there is no other FPS game that can compete to CS:GO (yes i mean it), the Devs ruined the game. There is a 7/10 chance that there will be a hacker in the server (even in prime matchmaking) and it just ruins the game. The worse part is Valve Anti-Cheat (VAC) is like completely non-existent. What kind of anti-cheat can't detect the hacks when the player runs the game? For VAC to work you need to mass report the hacker for VAC to actually make a move about it. My freshman friend taking up IT said to me that creating cheats for this game was a walk in the park. Just goes to prove that VAC isn't really that good. Overwatch was added and I think it was a good idea but come on. Overwatch is like a Plan B for hackers that get away with it, but almost every hacker gets away with it ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. You have to play in 3rd party clients like Faceit, CEVO, ESEA, etc. to really have a legit game without hacks. I'm a competitive gamer trying to aim for Global Elite (currently DMG) and when there's a hacker I always try to shake it off but that just doesn't work when every other game you face a guy who peeks with no sense at all. It just rips your motivation off.

The second reason is the game is getting stale. There's no new content that makes the players hyped. There's only grinding in matchmaking. No new maps, no new game modes, no new operations. These kind of things are like spices to add flavor the game.

TL;DR: This game used to be great but I feel like the devs aren't doing anything to maintain the playerbase ¯\_(ツ)_/
