The pinnacle of thought-provoking puzzling coupled with more of the award-winning writing and voice acting. Valve really took what they'd achieved in Portal, ran with it and raised the bar!

Now, if only there was a Portal 3!

An absolutely amazing game. Yeah, it had a rocky release (of which to be fair, I never really experienced any of the issues myself), but CDPR really have smashed this out of the park with all the tweaks, updates and fixes.

Well written stor(y)/(ies), satisfying gameplay and character development. A wealth of different options and ways to handle different situations.

Jaw-droppingly beautiful visuals, top shelf soundtrack, high-quality voice work.

Well worth more than a single playthrough in my opinion!

TL:DR - This game will test your patience and will have you second guessing whether the dice are against you most of the time...

That is totally normal!

Blood Bowl 2 is the seminal offering of the 2016 ruleset for the Games Workshop tabletop game. Both these rules and indeed this PC game have since been superseded by the 2020 / Blood Bowl 3 ruleset, but BB2 is still currently more stable, polished and has more features.

The single player campaign is simple enough, the AI in this game is generally pretty dumb and offers little challenge. It makes stupid decisions, it doesn't play the ball offensively enough, it doesn't foul. A wealth of issues if you only plan on playing against the computer long term.

The game REALLY opens up in multiplayer however. That's where the fun and replayability comes in. Whether it's just a friendly multiplayer match, or if you find / create a league online, you can sink HUNDREDS of hours into this game.

Hasn't quite found its feet yet and doesn't feel quite as "there" yet as Dirt Rally 2, but this is like a month old at the time of my review and DR2 is 4 years old.

WRC is mostly shinier and prettier, and apparently Codemasters ported their physics out of their EGO engine and into Unreal for this, so the handling is already pretty good.

I hope with the coming seasons, updated content and (the best part) the VR patch, this will have as much replayability for me as DR2 has done.

Strongly recommend playing with a wheel if you're serious, although the game is more playable with a controller than wheel worth 30 bucks. You at least want a wheel with force feedback or you're better of sticking with a controller.

This is an amazing rally game that still holds up despite being released back in 2019. Codemasters really hit the mark with this one.

Still looks great running on an older version of their EGO engine, running at ultra detail in 4k on a modern rig over 60fps easily.

The handling in this game is incredible, if unforgiving for newcomers. Plays well on a controller but the real game opens up if you have a wheel and pedals.

For ultra-immersion, I can highly recommend playing this in VR mode with a wheel and pedals if you have the option to. Absolute game-changer. Example videos of VR gameplay on my profile.

Aliens vs Predator (2010) - AKA Aliens vs Predator 3

TL:DR

In my opinion, this is the best recreation of the AvP universe in game form to date. Each race has a remarkably short, but cleverly intertwining, single player campaign (which is recommended if for no other reason than learning the basics of each race and where you ultimately want your keys to be bound). Just be prepared for some niggling annoyances that you will have to get used to with the controls. Beyond this however, multiplayer is where this game truly shines. The downside is that unfortunately after nearly a decade since the original release date, the dedicated servers out there can be hit and miss for player activity. There ARE still matches out there though, and hopefully, like me, you will make some new friends along the way too as this opens the door to private player hosted matches as well. Personally, I still think this is a lot of fun, even nowadays. Just don't expect too much hand holding from the game itself as you learn the ropes.

FULL REVIEW - SINGLE PLAYER:

The 2010 release of Aliens vs Predator is made by some of the original team from Rebellion Software who made the first PC version way back in 1999. For me this explains how they manage to capture the general atmosphere and the essence of each of the races so well, obviously drawing influence from their previous labour of love. The attention to detail in both the character designs and the background lore show that these guys really had a fond appreciation for the source material this universe is based on.

The overall story this game is based around is very well written and well thought out, but unfortunately for many, (myself included), it could have been fleshed out so, so much more. As a result, all the campaigns feel short and leave you with a yearning for more at the end of each of them. That's not to say that they aren't satisfying however...

Without giving spoilers, for each race the player starts out as an initiate (rookie marine, captive xenomorph or youngblood predator), but throughout their respective campaign they satisfyingly develop and eventually become more adept at their roles, until the ultimate conclusion to each of their intertwined chapters.

FULL REVIEW - MULTIPLAYER:

I had intended on writing a detailed multiplayer review as, in my opinion, the balance between marines, predators and aliens was amazingly handled. The problem nowadays is that cheaters are rife and it really ruins a lot of the fun unfortunately.
